It's official. I need an exorcist! Decor advice for new layout
Comments (11)I-chic, I think you're right. Mixing finishes will probably date the kitchen so you just exorcised that particular demon for me. Thank you so much! I'm not going to use painted cabinets though, as beautiful as they are, because I'm just too hard on my stuff and I know I'll ding the heck out of them. I love how white quarter sawn oak can have a victorian feel to it, which I think will fit in nicely with the rest of the house. What I have in mind: Astidh, the prep sink is actually pictured bigger than it will be in reality. There's 4 ft of space on each side of the cooktop, and I was thinking a 13" prep sink installed only a few inches from the wall. I have been waffling between the layout above and the one below (which wouldn't need a prep sink). I would still find myself working where I do now which is to the left of the range, away from the corner, but that's not really a hardship. L-shaped kitchen So, where am I now? Thanks to igloo (btw, are you still in bed?) I know what I'm doing with the cabinets, but the question that remains is which layout is best. Pros of layout 1 No corners well defined zones with no one getting in each others way I love the symmetry on the cooktop wall I LOVE how open it feels it's not so run of the mill Cons of layout 1 gives up some storage space gives up some counter space but I think what you lose with the corner is gained by having 4 ft of straight run Pros of layout 2 more storage space sink isn't totally visible from dining room no prep sink needed Cons of layout 2 A corner I know I won't work in (but DH will) 4 ft of rather unusable space to the right of sink Can't do a farm sink (I guess I could move the sink down to where it is in layout 1 and keep the prep sink, hmmm) It would look like this: L-shaped layout with sink moved down (opens another can of worms...should the sink be centered in the run or with the opening to the dining room?) I'm beginning to believe there is no hope for me and that I will remain hopelessly indecisive. I'm really leaning toward layout 1, possibly without the prep sink (I could put a refuse receptacle there instead) but am not sure I should give up the storage/counter space of layout 2/3 (my cd player currently resides there). How am I ever going to make up my mind? Can anyone see any obvious reasons why one of these layouts would be superior to the others? All comments, even those which answer questions that weren't asked are deeply appreciated. TIA, again....See MoreAnother kitchen layout
Comments (18)Interesting kitchen layout and decor! Some initial questions.... It looks like you may have children (refrigerator decor)...how many totally in your family? Infants/Toddlers/young children/tweens/teens? Spouse? Anyone else? How many people will be working in the kitchen at one time (prepping, cooking/baking, cleaning up, other)? Either now or in the future (as children grow up!) Appliances? Types, sizes? (Other than what we see...like MW?) What size is the refrigerator? Is it an existing one? Or, are you getting a new one? If new, would you like counter-depth, built-in, or full depth? What are the dimensions of each wall segment & window and the distances b/w the walls and the windows & doorways? Other than the piano wall and the stairs, is everything else fair game? :-) What's the minimum length of wall you need for the piano? Can the window be moved/changed? Do you also want the serving counter to have seating? Do you have a pantry elsewhere? Now, a couple of comments on the latest layout... Pantry...it's a long walk around either the peninsula or the refrigerator & piano to get to that pantry. Personally, I would be really unhappy the second or third time I had to go back for something I forgot or just realized I needed! Shortened Wall next to the range...how short is it? Your range is next to that wall (yes, there's 18" b/w it and the wall, but that's not much space). Will it be short enough for someone to accidentally touch something hot on the counter when running down the stairs...or just playing there? Sorry for all the questions, but it really helps if we know these things!...See Morefurniture layout and decorating ideas awkward E-I-Kitchen to living
Comments (2)What is your decor style? Are you keeping the wall color? What is your budget? The blank palette is actually a gift. You won't have to undo or make do with someone else's choices or mistakes. I would definitely put some large rugs on your list to help define your spaces. Properly hung curtain panels will also warm up the rooms and ground them. The kitchen lighting looks blah, I would definitely replace them. Keep in mind that the house is filled with warm tones so greys and cool colors, although popular, will be hard to work into the space....See MoreLiving room decor & layout....what's missing?
Comments (21)I think I'm going to start with mantle and artwork and would like to add blue as an accent. The rest of the room will be easier to fall into place. I'd like to paint the existing mirror white to better match, I like the size and style. Eventually I will get console cabinets for either side of the fireplace. What do you think? I'm ready to check out on most of these items!! I feel like I'm heading in the right direction. (My posts keep disappearing, so going to split up pictures separately)....See MoreRelated Professionals
