Should I paint my chairs black?
Comments (29)I think the chairs in their warm wood tones are beautiful the way they are. There are already some black accent pieces in the room, so I think adding more would be too much. Agree with dillydally that it would also compete with the base. You want some contrast between the base and all the legs (and chair covers) to really set off the pretty curves of the base. Instead, I'd do the chair covers in a print with a bit of black or other dark value in it. I picture a geometric or other pattern with a repeat-heavy rhythm. Your room has come together beautifully which must please you endlessly....See MoreHELP! Should I paint my cabinets black or cream or taupe?
Comments (38)"I sure hope you like black. There are some of us who would not even consider it." I take no personal offense at that statement, but it's very narrow. Isn't that what makes the world more interesting...diversity? My previous kitchen was beautiful with matte black painted maple lower cabinets. I had no uppers...just art hanging in that space. the cabinets weren't heavy looking, nor did they make the room too dark. It was a beautiful space.....and understated...quite like the proverbial black cocktail dress, a classic. I had tons of natural light...one solid wall of windows and my wood floors were oak with no stain so they weren't dark. I would agree it depends on the kitchen, style of house, countertop, lighting, etc. Decora cabinets used to send potential clients over to see my kitchen anytime someone was considering black. I wish I could post photos, but I only have the real estate tour and you can't snag stills from it. The house sold in 45 days during the worst of the housing crunch. The buyers specifically said they loved the kitchen at the act of sale. So there are also those of us who would and have chosen black. Like everything else...it depends on the big picture....See MoreWhat color paint should I use in my kitchen?

Comments (20)So, lets look at some options. You have a rather traditional looking staircase and surrounding decor. If you paint the railings black, it's going to disappear into the wrought iron. Notice all the white surrounding it. even the risers. Nothing else is black. would you be willing to paint the trim work upstairs black? or how about the doors? What if you took off the carpet and did the risers in black, stained the treads and updated to a more contemporary railing? more all black, but white risers and darker treads. Notice the newer light fixture in the foyer you could always darken your stain color and get a more modern, square style spindles in white this one looks good. the black/white contrast w/the herringbone stair runner, squared off newel posts. who says you have to do black?! Live a little....See Moreilikefriday
