Actually, those shelves (and other LR furniture) came from Laz-e-boy about 18 months ago. They no longer carry the tv stands that complement the coffee/side tables, so we're stumped. Love the Ikea tv stand (cheap!) but it seems a bit "blocky". Also, what to do on the wall above it? And general layout--is it too much stuff for one space? And we haven't even started on wall stuff, pictures & mirrors, etc.

thenick-- yup, piano can't go by that window (floor vent). Unless it does not work out IRL (need to do more measuring, but my very horrible rough Paint sketch seems like it would work), I am going to put the sofa where it is, piano on the wall where the black chair is, and then some small chairs facing each other on each side of the sofa (perpendicular to sofa) . . .one by the window, and one opposite it (near the left side of the sofa). I think what is part of the problem (for my taste) in the current room is there are no legs in it and furniture is dark. I would add more pattern. Curtains are also dark for me. I may have no curtains or just use some lace like this: My sofa is white (but I may get a different color slipcover eventually . . .would love velvet), and I would get chairs with legs on them, no arms, low profile. I'd put a rug in front of the sofa, too. Rug would have pattern, as would pillows on sofa.

Hi Samantha! This looks like a very nice home. Congratulations! Does this sit on a basement, or is there more here that we can't see? What's the total sq. ft.? 15x15 is a nice sized LR. I'm terrible at reading floor plans, so please tell me if I'm understanding you correctly. The TV is going on the wall that backs up to the bathroom and foyer. Are you getting the optional windows on either side of the fireplace? Then, as I understand it, you want the sectional to be in front of the windows that overlook the courtyard, with the shorter section extending out between the dining room and kitchen areas. Is that correct? One thing to be aware of is how much room you will need when the reclining parts are fully reclined. On the long section in front of the window, will there be anything to the right of it, like a floor lamp or end table? A coffee table in front of either section? An end table next to the shorter section? Besides the accent chair and possible aforementioned tables/lamps, will there be any other furniture in the LR? What is the main purpose of the sectional sofa? TV viewing? Conversation area? How many people are you hoping to seat in each section? I think the main concern would be to leave ample room behind the short end between the sofa fully reclined and the kitchen/dining area. If you have people over to watch a football game, for example, you'd likely be going back and forth with food and drink, and if you have to "squeeze by" every time, that will get old really fast. A secondary concern, from a design standpoint, would be to ensure the sofa isn't so huge that it completely dominates the room, stealing the focus from the lovely fireplace and the views out the windows. I think if you can answer those questions it will be easier for you to decide upon the best size for the sectional. I hope this helps! :-)

You have a flair for decoration and your room is lovely. However, for a room to work comfort comes first and the animal skin looks like a tripping hazard and doesn't seem to leave room for a coffee table. Instead, find a large rug on which to place your furniture which will cover a good part of your space. Make it something beautiful and colorful. Everything here is beige and this room needs color badly. A geometric Oriental rug with mainly blues but also some warm tones would work well. However, if you prefer neutrals then go in that direction. Once the rug is in place I suggest a glass coffee table to break up the solid furniture pieces, or at least an ottoman that has long legs. I'd place another chair to the left of the couch to complete your furniture grouping. Please don't put an oversize monster there but rather a smaller but comfortable upholstered chair to complete your seating.
