Help with back splash fo granite I don't like
Comments (20)How accurate are those photos for actual color? Would it serve better to draw out that squash gold or the gray? (Personally, I think there's more than enough of the pinky yellow.) Or introduce an accent that matches the wood? What feeling does the owner prefer: warm colors? cool colors? Are there other colors or patterns in the room that need to be considered? Formal or informal? Budget? DIY or pro install? Access to vendors? Personal preferences for materials? Has she taken the Sweeby test? Definitely avoid small mosaic glass tiles unless they're a trim band no more than 3 inches tall and positioned at least 10 inches above the counter and are a good match with the countertop. srg215's monocolor solution has a lot of wisdom to it, and the tile size is big enough to provide a larger, regular counterpoint (pun intended) to the countertop's irregular pattern. It defuses it, although his/her granite has fewer color tones than this one. Definitely recommend living with this for a while and perhaps trying out some colors and textures via paint, fabrics, kitchen objects, maybe wallpaper or stencil. Tile backsplashes are generally expensive enough and permanent enough to set this owner up with a second reason for dissatisfaction if she rushes into things....See MoreBack to the drawing board....Layout help please?!?
Comments (19)Thank you again. I was just trying to make this happen. I was talking to Dutchwood tonight and looking at the measurements, the fridge/freezer twins with their surround need 69" of space. I only have 69" from trim to trim on the back windows (with even spacing) and I think that's going to end up looking all jammed together. The view you've given isn't that bad, really! I'm coming almost four feet down the wall. I can't tell what it will actually be since there's a giant wall in the way, but it's better than what I'd have gotten from the original window! That's a window we were reducing from a smashed in double to a single, so we have to work on it anyway....See MoreSpent a fortune on a new couch and custom curtains that I don’t like.
Comments (566)Hi Kim! I commented quite a while ago and see that you are still in a quandary. I am dating myself but found Christopher Lowell’s” Seven RULES for Design” very helpful. Steps 2-4 are your stumbling blocks. Keeping your main pieces of furniture, then work on your flooring, treat your ottoman as an accent piece(5) #4 is window treatment, which I believe you are moving to the bedroom.Don’t get new curtains until you decide if you will be using a throw rug. Your artwork is part of step 5. plants I think is next then lighting is last. Hope this helps, he did amazing transformations, check out his book. Good luck....See MoreKitchen Refresh - Back to the Drawing Board - Need Inspiration
Comments (15)Is there a reason you're intent on a marble backsplash? If so, two thoughts. White cabinets, black counter, and marble backsplash is about as classic as it gets. See first photo below. You can get bulletproof honed black granite or quartz. Or, if you want a white counter, why not do a beautiful colored tile backsplash, like the second photo (it has a black counter, bu ignore that)? Also a total classic combination. I just think it's going to be very, very hard to find complimentary and no clashing white quartz counters and marble backsplash. I'm less hung up on mixing natural and synthetic and more focused on the fact tha visually, I think the materials are very similar but not matching which can end up looking like you tried to match and failed. So I would decide which element you feel more strongly about - counters or backsplash - and let that lead the way....See Moreeld6161
