No leaves on Hackberry tree
Comments (2)It should get more leaves in a few weeks. There are lots of trees in Denver metro that got frosted. Part of the problem is that it was a very mild winter and trees leafed out earlier than normal. Hopefully there's not another late freeze that gets the new leaves. There's been a couple springs that the big locust tree in front of my house didn't get it's second set until June....See MoreOak and hackberry trees growing together in central texas
Comments (3)Hackberry & oak have no issues coexisting with each other other than they are competing for the same resources (light, moisture, nutrients). In nature, the more competitive one in any given location wins. Oak would generally have the advantage on dry sites because of its greater drought tolerance and fire resistance. In your garden, Hackberry might find the conditions favourable and eventually outcompete the oak (many years). The dead branches on your oaks is a sign of decline. Could be caused by a number of things but in built up areas, root disturbance is #1. Either direct damage to roots, a change in irrigation, new impermeable surfaces, and applying fill over the roots. Raised beds will negatively impact your oaks...the only question is, by how much?...See MoreHackberry leaf problem

Comments (5)if you could only trim trees at certain moments in time.. most of the services woulld be out of business ... so i wouldnt be too concerned about timing in general ... in my MI.. tehre is a beetle that can attack oak .. so you want to do it when the sap isnt flowing ... so that is what you ask about these two trees .. and im not aware of such.... with ash.. there is emerald ash borer ... is that a problem in your area?? .. a call to your local extension office might get you info on that ... or this: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffnt&q=eab+in+denver&ia=web then the next issue might be if you might not be better off just divesting in the ash completely ... you dont mention what kind of ash .. so i cant go any further ... next might be on a flowering tree .. whether you want to miss some flower show ... and that isnt an issue with these two ... last.. it might be nice to post us some pix in a reply.. so we can opine whether its all an issue ... and give us some pix of the ash bark.. and we might find out if we can see any eab holes ... thats the issues that strike me right off .. maybe more will come to me ... oh.. who is providing the service.. a well known provider.. or 2 guys with a chainsaw and a pickup truck???? ken...See Moreindianagardengirl
