Great photos... I was just looking at the 3 panel slab. It’s always a conflict for me as I was shooting for 80/20 modern with classical underpinnings and oddly enough there is a designer who was featured doing just that with these Metrie FF doors that I love.

Those round doors go with nothing about your house. If you want round, MODERN and round, not 1970’s round is what to look for.

I love both styles but if those Metrie Fashion Forward doors suited my house, I'd go with a similar style for the front door. There must be a way to mix Hollywood Regency and modern. What are your furnishings like?

Nothing screws up a house faster than an inability to commit to a flavor for major elements. Save the regency effect for a glam girl dressing area only YOU will see. If you must : )

OK Jan, what do you suggest? Give me your ‘BIG Ideas’ I’m most interested in seeing what you suggest... Do you even agree with the front door? And if so what are the interior doors to look like? Am I allowed any molding in the kitchen, or is that a big sin too? I’m not being sarcastic I want to hear....

Consider a different front door…no sidelights and larger square windows. Paint a bright color and have the entire exterior white.

Interior doors and hardware:

one panel, and paint interior doors what ever color you paint the front door.

All doors the same color, inside and out, could be a fun way to start your interior scheme.

@divachar, did you have a Pinterest board or Houzz ideabook of houses and interiors you like? I'm not a pro but I don't see a necessary contradiction between Hollywood Regency and Modern in so far as I define "modern" as unfussy and streamlined. Look at the Brody living room and Sunnylands master bedroom by William Haines, the one credited with creating HR, in this blog post. They read pretty modern to me. (No mouldings or trim though.) In that first HR pic JAN shared, wouldn't the room read 'modern' if the mouldings were painted the same colour as the wall and the lamps were more streamlined?

I agree with JAN that it takes a good eye and a deft hand to meld the two styles and the key to a successful house is style cohesion and harmonious details. I love both styles very much so I'd love to see how you incorporate them in your house. ETA: I had not seen your previous posts so apologies for thinking this was a new build.

We now have 3-4 PRO Designers and not one is ‘really’ in agreement.

Jan, I’m completely renovating not building, I absolutely love Hollywood Regency, but I’m in a house in which I’m looking for a way to marry the exterior to what I like on the inside, without it looking like a tacky mess...

I felt that clean lines on the doors would be a step towards marrying the two, I agree Jan I don’t have to have the circle motif but how can I marry that exterior to a glam interior? What do I need to do to keep the outside cohesive with an interior I like?

Interestingly I have B&B planned for the front, whitewashing the brick and black exterior windows, horizontal plank running sides and back. The window on the front will be larger and the actual doors have larger glass squares as someone suggested above. I will try and add photo of what it is and what I’m aiming for, I don’t want a farmhouse interior and I’m sure someone is going to say well why are you doing B&B? I don’t think it’s exclusive to the farmhouse look. Nothing personal but the above photo and suggestions from Beverly... I absolutely hate.

I need solid advice on taking a nondescript bungalow (you call it a ranch) it’s geography, and how to get a exterior to go with an interior that will be very glam.... cause that’s what I like.

I think you do a clean-lined front door and save your touches of glam for the interior. That circle door would be fun to have at the entry to your master bedroom.

You got different answers. How annoying. What you got was based on the info you provided. A very mid cen styled door for an entry to what anyone would assume would grace a similarly styled home. The one not posted in the question. Let some light in. Save your money for landscaping, and hardscaping.

Do the current doors need to be replaced? They have a mid-century design that looks quite glam, imo. Painted all the same glossy colour - you'd have a sleek glam look, no? Have you considered hiring a local designer to help you achieve your aesthetic cohesively?

Are there any interior doors that are visible from your front door?

For what it’s worth, I’m not planning for our exterior design to match our interior decor/design. We’re doing a modern farmhouse exterior (white board & batten siding with black windows), but the interior will be modern/Scandinavian. I like modern farmhouse exteriors, but I’m not a fan of a rustic/farmhouse interior (knick knacks, words on walls, shiplap, etc.). For me, as long as the interior is cohesive, it doesn’t necessarily need to match the exterior. I think it really depends on the style of the house; Scandinavian decor definitely wouldn’t work in my parents Spanish house, but our house is a blank canvas with no interesting interior details worth honoring, so I could’ve gone with any interior design style.

Here is my non-pro 2cents. You could paint your current front door and trim gloss black and do the black circle doors inside. match the hardware colors and do a nice back plate. If you change, do a simple black full glass with opaque glass. I love Regency and glam and would totally do the black circle doors if I didn’t have so many to replace.

That house is neither MCM nor Hollywood Regency. You’re trying to make it something it really isn’t. Like turning a no makeup plain Amish girl into high makeup glam Joan Rivers. Not gonna work. Ever. It wouldn’t be comfortable in its own skin if you tried that. It would be visiting Downton Abbey and never knowing which fork to use and which title to call out in conversation. And wearing all the “wrong” clothes. Hunting tweeds are for riding astride, not the walk across the garden. Awkward!

The closest to what it is would be clean lined, non glam choices for your permanent elements. No curvy round doors. No crystal knobs. Soft Modern rather than MCM. A bit more natural warmer materials and less cold chilly frigid hospital look. Keep the brick as brick. Don’t ruin the only warm part of your exterior. Pick simple 4 panel or single panel interior doors. Get some more natural wood, brick, stone, and color in there.

Your want for the more luxurious and soft needs to go to the furnishings. A great green velvet sofa on natural oak wood floors. Embroidered violet and gold pillows. A super plush and sensuous white flokati rug. A textured lilac grasscloth wallpaper. Maybe some subtle gray violet Venetian plastered walls. Brass and gilt and crystal for accessories and lighting.

But with a bit of restraint. It’s a delicate balance that can easily overwhelm into tacky Barbie‘s Trump Hotel Gold Toilet and Pink Satin Themepark. Just as it can go the other way into Ice Princess Ice Cube Frozen With No Blender and Tequila to Make It Fun. Which that exterior rendering pretty much is.

No reeded glass. It will take a strong turn to mid cen : ) Inside? Take a simple ONE recessed panel door for interior, mirror the inset on any that seem appropriate, and use some RESTRAINT. A simple call to a glass company who will template and glue it on.

Add your fab door knobs.

Get over the circle thing. Save the totally over the top for a she shed..or your own bedroom.

Hi Stacy, it will look in over a open wall with railing going downstairs, so it that respect I would be fine with it. But at night when walking back and forth I’m not sure how comfortable I would be with all that clear glass. I like the clear glass for sure, so I’m a bit unsure on that one. Your doors look beautiful!

I like opaque glass in the front door. (And curtains and blinds.) I ended up driving a lot at night last year and all these full view houses on neighborhood streets looked like giant tv shows. Reminded me of the movie Rear Window”. LOL.

Example - they carried the circles from the doors in other places. Light touch.

The protruding garage could be balanced if you add a garden wall such as the one to the right of the front door in above photo.

You don’t want all of us Pros giving you the same advice. You have a mind of your own. Take what you get and sort through suggestions and decide which way to go.

Everything is a domino effect and I’ve had my share of frustration but I think my ‘God-gut’ has always served me correctly on design.
