Choosing a White for Master Bedroom

Hi all, I am getting ready for a refresh of our master bedroom, which is sorely needed - we are empty nesters as of a few weeks ago and I finally have mental space to think about this. I have not given a moment's thought to our bedroom in over a decade.

My main goal for the room is to calm down the effect and add some touches that make it transitional rather than traditional.

The furniture and yellow and blue toile window treatments will stay.

I plan to replace the rug with a larger, simpler rug. (I'm open to suggestions on that.) The mirror will go and be replaced with a simple round mirror with a slim brass frame. We are also getting new nightstands and lamps (both matching).

I'm looking for a fresh white or off-white for an overall brightening and calming effect. I'm thinking about Benjamin Moore Gardenia White, or Simply White, but suspect that whatever I choose should be harmonious with the fabric of the curtains. My hesitation about Gardenia is that I think it has lavender undertones. I want to avoid anything that will create a yellowish effect.

I would also take a look at Benjamin Moore Mascarpone AF-20. It's a soft cream which will compliment your current fabrics and give the room a cheerful lift. It's not too yellow so it won't be hard on the eyes. For a rug I completely agree - a less busy print will calm the room - especially since you have a lot of pattern in the curtains already. A soft blue rug will help keep the space feeling light.

I would look into Benjamin Moore White Dove (more grey base) or Sherwin Williams Alabaster (warmer white). I would also use a trim color that is a crisp white in a different sheen.

We recently finished renovating our master bath. Now we are working on master bedroom. We painted the walls a soft grey. We are installing white wide shutters. We are looking at engineered wood 8" wide planks in a light wood color or a grayish color (light). Are wide planks the "it" thing now vs thin wood? Trying to decide if we should go with a grey wood floor or light wood color? The top photo is a sample we are considering.The second photo below is from our bedroom entering into our master bath. there are two sample floor pieces we are considering that are in the grey family. The flooring in the bedroom (porcelain tile) will be torn up- contractor installed the incorrect color- it was supposed to match the bathroom. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. we need to decide by this Wednesday.

The bathroom looks lovely! Since you have gray black and white there, I would think to carry something similar to the bedroom. Then you mentioned cherry furniture so maybe the gray part isn't ideal. If you are looking for a neutral though, if you did a more greige color such as Modern Gray or Accessible Beige or Agreeable Gray ( all SW) it would seem like a continuation of the bathroom color but more harmonious with the cherry and beige. Another one that might be worth considering is something like Lazy Gray or Sea Salt which are very neutral and serene as well, but have more depth and color.

You may want to start saving inspiration rooms you love; it will really help if you have a direction. I would purchase the rug fist vs bedding and cushions so you have a style to build on. Be sure to use various colors, patterns and textures so it feels more interesting The headboard is high and I think art above each night stand would be more complimentary and use small brass lamps for a modern look. You could add the sign on another wall If you need a bedskirt, a more tailored style would feel more modern Dresser and tv wall - mirror, plant, chair, art, baskets

Sorry been out of the loop.....no suggestions on night stands other than looking on line for something wood and industrial. Find three that you like and post pics, and ask for a vote online! But they should be height of mattress for ease of use while in bed and be able to sit about two inches from mattress.

Thank you both! I will take a look at those paint options. We are Benjamin Moore people :-) but if the SW color works better, I am open to that.

Questions: Do you have a recommendation for a crisp white for the trim and doors?

And re: the rug, what do you think about this option, in light blue? (I thought about grey, but the blue contrast in the center is too busy.) For white trim I would look at Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. Also remember to get a waterbased paint so it won't turn yellow over time like an oil. Inslx Cabinet Coat (a Benjamin Moore product) is very good. Overstock is my go-to for inexpensive rugs. You just have to be careful. You may consider matching the off-white on your drapes. That will harmonize and pull the room together.
