Small toaster oven rec?
Comments (1)I have posted before about my Black and Decker Infrawave, I love it and it is a great little toaster oven. Makes perfect toast and really crisps up leftover pizza, chicken nuggets etc. quickly....See MoreToaster oven advice?
Comments (15)I recently bought the larger Breville, for use during my kitchen remodel and as a second small oven afterward, and have been thoroughly satisfied with it. (Actually, we moved into this house about nine months ago with no functioning kitchen, no stove. With only about one ovenless month to go before the new kitchen is ready, I finally broke down and bought the Breville. So understand that this review is coming from someone for whom the ability to bake ANYthing seems like a small miracle and a joy.) Thus far I've baked several batches of cookies, small free-form bread loaves, and dinner rolls. I've roasted a chicken (cut-up, not whole), warmed leftovers, toasted sandwiches, made a couple casserole-type dinners for six, baked pizzas both frozen and fresh, and yes, made toast. Baking with the convection fan is remarkably even for such a small oven. It's not perfect, and I've found that a sheet of cookies or a pizza browns slightly more evenly if I rotate the pan halfway through, but this step isn't absolutely necessary for good results. At the store I checked a 9"x13" pan and found that it fit. MY 9x13, however, has handles that stick out and therefore doesn't fit. (I'm now wondering if what I saw at the store might have been 8"x12".) It comes with a useful 11"x11"x1" pan and a 13" pizza pan. Given the slight rim on the pizza pan, the usable flat surface is really 12" in diameter. I've also used 9"x9"x2" and 7"x11"x2" with no problems. One thing to note, the thing uses 1800 Watts. When I run it in the temporary hallway kitchen of my old house, the lights of two rooms flicker and dim. When I told the electrician who was working on the kitchen that I had just bought an 1800 Watt toaster, his eyes widened slightly, and then he very carefully asked for all the places that we might decide to use it in the new kitchen so that he could be sure to accommodate it....See MoreWhat does a 3K oven do that a 1K oven will not do?
Comments (35)Update on the Panasonic Convection/MW: I cooked stuffed peppers last night and decided to preheat the oven. I combo cooked for 25 min total but it took a little longer to get everything put together so it was preheating for a while before that. When my daughter got something out of the cabinet above she commented that it was warm and it definitely was. I got out the manual (which has a picture of the oven on a counter below wall cabinets) and under placement of oven it says "3" clearance on each side and 1" on top, do not block air vents, do not place near a hot, damp, surface such as a gas or electric range or dishwasher, do not operate when room humidity is excessive." Also, I couldn't find it on display anywhere when I was looking. They have it online at Sears and Best Buy but not in the stores and none of the 4 appliances stores that I went to had one either. I ended up buying it sight unseen at Buy.com . So far I like it better than the Sharp. Hope that helps! attention. I did notice the cabinet being warm on occasion but never checked during or right after cooking. I cooked the stuffed peppers for 25 minutes total but it took me longer than expected to get everything put together so it was preheating for a while. I know that doesn't help much but I thought I'd throw that in. Also, FWIW, when I took down the wallpaper in the kitchen several weeks ago, the paper behind that oven had come away from the wall. I read about the Panasonic here on Gardenweb. It seems stupid to have a countertop oven that size that nees 6" clearance above it month, teh paper beThere's about...See MoreWhat to do with the toaster oven?
Comments (56)My small B&D toaster oven, a 4C coffee and 12 C coffee Mr. Coffee all sit in a row on my counter. I have to pull each item forward when in use as my upper cabs are only 15 inches above. When my older B&D died, I purchased a newer one only to find the height issue others have mentioned, so back to the store with that one. Looked in my budget book for where I got the old one - Sears - and snatched it right up. Placement is really about how you live and use your various small appliances. I use all 3 items daily so can't see putting them away. They are just a fact of life. Plus they are right by the refrigerator (for milk), breadbox (toast) cabinet that has coffee grinds, drawer for knives, spoons, and sink for water. It is a mini triangle. When I tried having the refrig on the opposite wall, I hated it because of not having these essential items all within arms reach. Everyone has their own concept and inner soul as to how they want their kitchen to 'look', even when it is just family.......I go for the practical for myself and everyone I know has a coffee pot and toaster oven on the counter....See Morellitm
