Wall color for 16-month old daughter's bedroom
Comments (17)Oh...I LOVE the bunny/ladybug fabric!! And it has that hint of barely-there shell pink that I think is just lovely. Personally, I think red-white-black is a wee bit jarring for sleeping...I think using the ladybugs with softer colors is just more, well, custom-looking. Less like a licensed character, you know what I mean? I would paint the walls the softest of pinks...I think Farrow & Ball has one. And use that fabric for curtains and maybe some big accent pillows. I'd just do a white cotton coverlet for the day bed that you can bleach....See MoreDesperately need help to furnish daughter's room
Comments (54)Thank you all again. Lots of suggestions. I never knew about beds at Anthropologie and OneKingsLane. I will sit with her this weekend to figure out which ones she likes. I liked a few at Ballard Designs as well. arcy_gw: She is currently in the guest bedroom. It's a plain white bed and solid white/cream bedding. Just a night stand and table lamp (temporary ones) that I moved there recently. Her bed is surrounded by books lying on the ground. Now that I'm thinking more and comparing her to her younger sister, she doesn't care much about what's in the room. My younger one demanded she wants a canopy bed, desk etc and got everything she wanted as soon as we moved in. Many of you suggested bench seating. The room already has the option. I was going to bring that up eventually after the main ones are done. Close-up picture of the poufs. They have white, green, orange, blue etc. Definitely no pink. aprilneverends: I'm happy that you are present here. Thanks for sharing the stories, We've all been there. Good luck with Anthropologie tees hunt. Looks like the consensus is that the nightstand doesn't fit in the room. justerrilynn: the semihandmadedoors site is so cool. I'm going to see if we can use it someplace. I love Serena & Lily, especially that Balboa bed. But it is more than I would like to spend right now. The custom bed is not as expensive as I thought it would be. It's coming to around $1200. Ofcourse, the fabric insert would be DIY. The woodworking firm is very reputable. I was leaning towards this option because my daughter liked that bed and I liked the option of being able to change the fabric when she gets bored or if it gets dirty. Again, she may have been influenced because she didn't see many options. I bought this Uttermost art long back and she liked it very much. She has a mature taste and is generally a very practical person. I will bring up the mural idea and see what she says. If she wants it, then it's a go....See MoreAnyone have success w/ hybrid closet system and freestanding dresser?
Comments (26)Hi Margo - Thank you for the details! Your closet looks awesome! I have a walk-in closet in the master where that might work very well. I will look into Easy Closets - I was hoping for no particle board, but I'm discovering that seems to be very prevalent in closet systems. I see Lundia closets are all wood, but I am unimpressed by their drawers. The Easy Closet drawers must be nice, since I know you said you had similar issues with Elfa that I have - wanting nice drawers? I did look at wood dressers, and I was unimpressed by the quality also....until I got up to $1100 each. I will do some more shopping. But at $1100, I could maybe talk to a cabinet maker? I don't know...like everything else in my renovation, this is a journey. Haha. After an ever-expanding renovation (started as some cosmetic work and ended up being a full gut renovation due to the realtor spray painting over all issues in the midcentury house!), I'm tired of spending money! I am considering a dresser with Rubbermaid wire closet systems around it, especially for my kids' closets. My understanding is that Rubbermaid does not have all the accessories of Elfa but are similar to Elfa's "ventilated" shelves, at a very low fraction of the cost. I prefer plywood, but I will have to see how much my carpenter will charge for building a closet around a dresser. I imagine you had a similar journey and ended up at Easy Closet after penciling it all out! I will certainly update when I decide what I'm doing, and I'd love to hear everyone else's journeys!...See MoreHelp my 11 year old daughter wants to have a Barbie inspired room
Comments (35)I'd get the bedding first, then select a pink that works with the bedding. When doing children's rooms, give them the illusion that they are choosing the color. YOU select three or four pinks that you like, then present them to her to pick from. This way you are happy with any of them, and she thinks that she picked it out herself. ;) Paint all the walls in pink, get new wall-to-wall carpeting (it works great in kids' rooms). Then add any and all Barbie accessories that she likes. When she tires of Barbie, just replace the accessories. I did this with my daughter when she was about 5 years old. She wanted purple, and her furniture was white, like your daughter's. My husband said oh no, not purple. My answer was it's her room, let her have what she wants. I think she had Rainbow Brite bedding (!) or some Laura Ashley, but whatever, we did the room in Ben Moore's Lily Lavender and she LOVED it. As she grew, we changed out the bedding but kept the lavender walls. It was only a few years ago, after she moved out that we redid the room completely....See MoreMissi (4b IA)
