Furniture Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Furniture Layout in a Living Room with a Corner Fireplace

I want to get ideas for a great layout for this livingroom. The door on the bottom left is my Front Door. The Stairs are exposed to the living room. The pink room is a spare bedroom. The Dining room is in the center of the house. On the other side of the Dining room is the Kitchen.

The Living room sits on the North West corner of the house.

Living room Details:

-I will use the fireplace regularly, and throughout the entire winter, bringing in logs from the front door.

-The room is a medium Green

-No TV in this room, ever

-I have an Old Crosley stand up radio (roughly 2.5' by 1.5' footprint) that will go somewhere in the room

-I would like to incorporate an area rug

-All the windows go about 18" from the ground all the way up to 20" from the ceiling

Style

-Cozy Farmhouse (without the knick-knacks) Its a real farmhouse, I would like to pick out furniture that matches that style

-I'm not sure what brands of furniture to get, I have not narrowed it down yet

-I have 2 Art Nouveau light fixtures in the Dining room (simple five light fixtures) I like Art Nouveau, but I'm not sure how to incorporate it with farmhouse.

-I will be hanging Gold picture frames in the stairway area and more throughout the living room

-Hardwood White Oak floors (I would like to see the floor as much as possible, minus the rug area)

-I like wingback chairs

-My wife does not want Buffalo Plaid or any checkered type patterns

All ideas and layout designs are appreciated.

I suggest hiring an interior designer who can put together a presentation, layout, and suggested pieces for you. This will provide the most comprehensive design for your space.

How many will you need to seat? What's your lifestyle? Kids, dogs, heavy use, light use? Budget for furniture?

Why 2 entrances to guest room? I think some pics would be better than the drawing which i find hard to read .Have no idea of size of room and a sectional IMO would be the last choice for furnishings especially if it has to sit i front of fireplce at all.

The door is to the backyard yes. I am definitely debating between the last two. The sofa facing the tv is comfortable for viewing but the fireplace looks best with the two chairs framing and everything fits. May move the sofa table behind the couch when we get an actual tv stand. You guys have been a great help. Side note how close can things go to the fireplace. Example can there be drapes on those windows or would that be too close?

Ok, so here’s some ideas you may not have though of. Flip flop the dining room with the living. Depending on how your breakfast bar is done, you child just mount the tv there. Build a divider wall on top of the current bar, but leaving it open. In one photo, the tv can spin so someone could watch the tv while in the kitchen. Do a divider wall again on top of the breakfast bar but only go halfway across allowing for the person in the kitchen to still be able to see out. You could have a small divider in between the two rooms perpendicular to the sliders or you could place a lift tv cabinet there. Lots of options-just depends on what will work as far as electrical/cable access.

I often ignore corner fireplaces in my furniture layouts the fireplace can still be used but it is almost always impossible to layout furniture in angles all over the space .You do need to post a to scale floor plan with pictures of the items you want to use in the space it is really irratating to have to go hunting for all the things that are described. Art noveau and framhouse will be a bit of a trick so post pics of the DR table and the lights I think you need to get a better idea of your actual style . Also what you mean when you say farmhouse because things like those lights and gold picture frames are not in my head farmhouse. Just because it is an actual farmhouse really doesnot mean everything inside has to be farmhouse.

I think you could manage two smaller scale sofas on right angles to each other with a chair in the corner to the left of the fireplace. Look for sofas with a tight back as opposed to loose cushions to hold up to lots of use, along with a performance fabric or slipcover.
