I got my Blue hosta... Now what?
Comments (11)thanks for the honest opinions! I suppose I will just have to suck it up and give them time to grow! lol I will take your advice and plant them on their own. I am impressed with the price still. I think I found the very same plants for sale, at a few mail order /online catalog places, they where selling 1-2 eye roots, which these are for $8-$9 each, this was a bag of 8 for under $20.00. I have no room to grow anything more inside, so they will have to stay in the fridge for a few more weeks. Then I may pot them up and put them out in a coldframe, bringing them in if the weather turns too chilly! I don't have a lot of room for many more Hostas, I may have trouble finding room for these 8 as most of my house is surrounded in sun! perhaps I will share the love with some relatives ;-)...See MoreWhich yellow hosta should I plant here?
Comments (27)Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I finally have it done - maybe not what will stay there "forever", but it's a start for this year at least! Kind of a long story how I ended up with what I did: - I traded someone locally for 5 divisions of Avocado - they were rough, hail stormed, and two of the divisions were tiny with only 1 root so I doubt they will make it. - Then I decided not to use those 5 Avocado after all since I thought it would be a while (if ever) before I liked the look of them, so I went to the nursery and they had 3 amazingly full and vibrant Stained Glass hostas, so I bought those. - In the end I used the 2 best Avocados on the end of the group, and the 3 Stained Glass in the middle. I may divide the Stained Glass in a couple years if I decide I want all 5 to match. Thank you all for the feedback - I am going to take it to heart in other ways. I couldn't find Squash Casserole anywhere locally (or Sea Sunrise), but if I see it I will try it (in the area to the right) after such good recommendations I want to see what it does! Or maybe some day I'll do a mail order - there are so many types that I'm sure I'll never get locally. :-) I also want to try Great Expectations, but will only try one since they sound like they can be touchy, and I'll wait until I find one at the nursery that looks like a nice starter - what they had yesterday was tiny and I just didn't see spending the money on it yesterday. Thank you all and happy hosta-ing!...See MoreAre all your hostas now dormant or put away for overwintering?
Comments (23)I keep hoping to find some website or booklet that can answer all the questions I have ==>> REALLY???? .. and what are we.. chopped liver?????????????? ... sheesh... lol die back leaves create there own mound of winter protection ... there is no reason to remove it ... EXCEPT... if you have a slug problem ... and then removing and drenching in fall will help kill all those bat turds ... so i guess there is a reason .. healing in mini's for winter.. can be a problem... if you have frost heave ... in late winter ... when they can pop out of the ground during some brief warm spell ... and you dont find them for a few months ... if you do this... mulch heavily.. so the soil stays cold late into spring ... presuming you dont have a rodent issue ... just start a new post.. for any single issue.. and we can help you .. burying this type of stuff in the bottom of a long post isnt recommended ... i usually dont keep coming back.. after i have puked out my words of wisdom ... [i probly will after that comment ...lol ] its not like we arent all starving for some new posts .... ken....See MoreLooking for 3 mini hostas for this 3 part ceramic planter I made.
Comments (21)I actually tried several and didn't really like the ones that I had planned, so it became quite a shuffle. I moved a division of Church Mouse in. This had outgrown a shallower planter I had made 4 years ago. I had bought School Mouse and Pandora's Box in clearance in fall 2019 for this planter. I did use the School Mouse, but the Pandora's Box was all wrong in terms of scale. So I divided my old Cracker Crumbs, and put a section of that in. That's not right either, but I needed to fill the space til I find the right thing. I want a gold: but SHORT leaved and wavy, which I have not found. I pulled a couple of leaves from other golds I already have to hold them up for scale, like Dragon Tails and Munchkin Fire, and those weren't right either....See Morezkathy z7a NC
