I think mine will be with me forever. Every day I feel it, sometimes I can barely move that leg and hip area. I have tried various things my Dr suggested but they don't help. I wish I could tell you of a magic cure but I can't. It is a lingering curse! I do get a slight bit of help rubbing 2 old goats lotion in deeply on the area.

I still have it from shingles I had at age 13 and I'm nearly 76! Fortunately, I was given Acyclovir when I had shingles again about 18 years ago and had no post-herpetic neuralgia afterwards.

Mine is now more a "tingling" than real pain, after all these years, but it's still there!

I didn't want to alarm phoggie, but I am just like the others-long term residual pain and weakness, although gabapentin helps me a lot. I wish everyone could benefit from it.

My stepdad ended up seeing a Chinese herbalist. Whatever the herbalist did worked.

After wearing bra for about an hour yesterday, my breast was on fire! Never slept at all. I applied CBD oil several times today, it seems some better. Doctor called script for steroid pack for me as well as increased my Gabapentin from 300 to 600 mg...which makes me dizzy and foggy but will try it.

A friend told me last night that her brother took his life from the severe pain from shingles! Not what I wanted to hear’

Haven't much after-effects from the shingles on my back. The top of my head gets a jolt now and then since the shingles on scalp and forehead. I know what it is so it doesn't freak me out and I just breath through it. If I didn't know why it happened I would probably be less likely to be able to cope.

Just a heads up... even the shingles vaccine doesn't prevent shingles, although it's said you might get a "milder" case of it.

OF NOTE: When I got my shingles vaccine, which has LIVE virus in it, I woke up the next morning with a major hearing impairment in my left ear. I immediately went to Urgent Care and they sent me to an otolaryngologist (specialist) and audiometrist (who does the audiogram), & the specialist couldn't figure out why I woke up "deaf" but his best guess was that it might be related to too much salt. That was odd, since I don't salt my food--except for the rare times I have New England clam chowder.

More research on my part indicated that for some people, the virus set up house in the "ears" and that affected hearing, and it was suggest that this be reported to the CDC. That hearing loss resolved itself in a few weeks. But wait! Then, I ended up with a hearing problem in my right ear. My guess is that the virus migrated and settled in my other ear. I continued to research and from my finding, I started taking L-Lysine as that's supposed to impede viruses from replicating. Thankfully the hearing loss in my right ear resolved after a few weeks as well.
