Many have used an online source here, I think Inspired LED? and been very happy with the planning, ordering etc. Hopefully someone who remembers will chime in. I've seen pros recommend Hafele many times also I used the thin bar lights from Lowes, easy to install either hard wire or plug-in and super easy to wipe clean from splatters, but they are bulkier than tape lights and more visible from, say, a seat at a table (not an issue for me)

Sophie, It's not that I am not up to it. You said no installation by teenage son. He has installed a front door, a ceiling fan, several light fixtures. I guess if you don't think he is capable, I wouldn't be either. So maybe I am not up to it. I don't know enough about the product to be sure. I guess I'll go to youtube.

If anyone is interested, contrary to my own plan I wound up installing the UC panels under the front of the cabinets instead of the back. I did this everywhere except the PT holder. There, I mounted one just behind it, not all the way to the rear. The choice for me was simple: I could see the panels in the back and not in the front. The PT holder hides the panel to an acceptable degree, and there is no noticeable inconsistency between the PT panel and the next one in front thanks to excellent diffusion. The glare/reflection I worried about is not a factor and I've got a dual wireless dimmer mounted to the wall. Very happy with the results! Thanks again to everyone for your help. Btw, I used "Independence" dimmers and "Designer" panels both by InspiredLED. Peter did a good job, quickly providing plans and suggestions and also fixing a hiccup when a piece arrived defective.

you can plug in the under cabinet lights using your existing outlet. (there's at least 100 diff types, so look around to see what works best for yours) Make sure it's an LED with a temperature of 3500-4000K. (anything lower throws off yellow light). I have one similar to this that I plug in. bonus,,,the light itself has an outlet on it so that you won't have to unplug the light to use a toaster or blender. you would plug the appliance into the light outlet (BTW, get some black outlet covers/outlets so that those white ones aren't so visible. they are simple to change yourself.) I suppose you could keep your white outlets and just do the black covers, like shown here,,,but since your backsplash is completely black, I think the all black one would look better. (i've read that you can paint them w/black chalk paint if you're not up to switching them. but really, the black ones are cheap)
