Thank you! I agree, they should have been more honest about the chance they were taking with one slab just to save me money. I did not even tell them my budget. I'm doing my best to stand firm, even though it is hard to deal with people sometimes and the time it takes. They already have a big down payment from us. I just want the finished product and design they are good at.

They should return the slab for one that is square. Victostone is a good company, so I'm a bit suspicious about their claim that the slab was not square. I suspect they may have broken a corner and are still trying to use the slab. Is there a Vicostone showroom near you? If so, call them directly to inquire about this issue and your measurements.

Edited to add: Vicostone Pure White is available in a 130"x65" size.

Uh, yeah, they should not be passing that cost off to you. It's their job to know stone / slab comes in each size.

They claim they get unsquare slabs often in many different brands and mine was the second in this brand. I was told my slab would be 130 x 65. But after this news last week, I called a large company here that sells Vicostone Quartz exclusively to contractors and they said no, high quality, 90 degree corners. Cambria that i chose now for the additional $210 is 132 x 65.5, useable amount recommended 130 x 63.5, high standards to quality. I called their 1-800 customer service from the web site. I gave this info to the fabricator company.

I agree, that is not your fee to swallow. A bit ridiculous in my opinion. Someone wasn't doing their job correctly and they already promised something in a contract that they could not follow thru with. I'll be honest...I probably wouldn't have even swallowed the $200+ difference because, again, you was told it could be done, plus you already paid with a contract in place. You're being nice already by taking care of the difference but please stand firm on the other fee. That is their responsibility. Their mistake, their fee to pay. They could always hang on to it and sell it to another customer possibly. White quartz is something a lot of people like.

Quartz slab sizes are the minimum dimensions the manufacturer guarantees the fabricator will be able to utilize. Out of square sounds like BS to me.

One stop shop cannot pass along the blame at this point, like a slab vs fabricator issue. Sounds familiar...

Have you ever been to a showroom where they display slabs? Quartz is always square (the corners). Granite, marble, quartzite (natural stones) are square-ish (with rough edges since they are cut from the earth) but QUARTZ is man made, and the warehouses that house the slabs have rows and rows of perfectly shaped, rectangular with square edge slabs! I have been to my local Vicostone facility in Montreal, and all the slabs are identical. Nothing out of square.

They could be in business for 16 years, but it only takes one person to make a mistake. It can happen but you shouldn't be on the hook for their mistake.

When I send a drawing to my fabricators to be quoted they can tell me at that time if it's going to fit into a slab. There is the exact size of a slab & then there is usable size of a slab. Usable size is what is available to use after any trimming of the edges & ends if needed.

Thank you for the great info Wow Great Place and Design Loft! I met with their business manager yesterday and he explained some aspects of how they cut out the template from the slab. It has eased my frustration with them. They are going to order the slightly larger jumbo Cambria and when it comes in next week, I will be there to see placement of template. I am not having to pay any return fees of the Vicostone to the supplier (Which is only 3 miles away!). I'm hoping this ends well now. Cabinets were beautifully installed last month. All issues fixed easily and promptly. It has been one long month since that with no counters.
