Comments (12)I used Aura last night for the first time, and I'm in love! I'm not a professional painter, but I've painted every room in my house a couple of times, so I have some experience. I painted one wall of my dining room last night. I used a 1/2" nap roller, so it took a bit to initially load the roller with paint, but once I got going, there was no stopping me. I looked at it up close this morning, and I can't see that I even need to touch up, much less apply a second coat. It cut in very smoothly. It does dry FAST, but doesn't show a distinction between dried cut in paint and rolled paint. I can't wait to paint the rest of the dining room and the kitchen with this stuff. I paid $67/gallon, but I think it was well worth it. Oh, and the Putnam Ivory color is lovely too!...See Morebenjamin moore aura paint
Comments (18)No primer is needed if you use Aura. I just removed an intercom speaker, patched it with screen and drywall and didn't prime. I used red Aura paint and nothing shows. You can view my pictures in "Favorite Rooms" I posted today of "Dinner Party" :http://photos.gardenweb.com/home/galleries/2008/11/aura_affinity_dinner_party_pho.html and http://photos.gardenweb.com/home/galleries/2008/11/more_aura_affinity_dinner_part.html Wish I could figure out how to post them here as some people do, but I'm an idiot. They should sand any bumps off, vacuum the walls, and/or if they're really dirty (probably not if one year old) they should wipe them down with a good cleaner like Krud Cutter or TSP or something. Fill any holes and sand them, and If you can see dark between your base boards and moldings they may need to caulk with painter's caulk. (prime afterwards) Ask them if they tape. If you are using a dark color paint it is very difficult to get a razor sharp edge without taping, in my opinion. I have seen awful cut-in jobs! If they are painting base boards or moldings they should be cleaned with something as well and primed again with Zinser oil base Primer if they don't want to sand. I have used it a ka-zillian times over slick paints without sanding. Ask for references by all means and call some of them! If they don't have any then that's not too good. They could be any "Joe SCHLEPPING" painters. :) Good luck! Don't ever learn to paint well or you will end up like me,...having to paint everything yourself! Good painters are expensive so the cheapest is not always the best......See MoreBenjamin Moore Aura Exterior paint for interior???
Comments (11)Couple of interesting points here... 1) From ACE's technical-dept., and other others... * Many INTERIOR paints are actually A LITTLE TOUGHER than Exteriors!!! * Latex binder formulations are purposely designed to be a little more flexible for EXTERIOR use. In essence, the exterior binders need to have some "give" in order to survive the temp-extremes. * Interior-only paints are more "rigid". Obviously...usually less temp. variations inside! * The same colorants are used obviously. * Some Exterior lines do have added mildewcides; but once the film has "cured/hardened", no off-gassing occurs. 2) "My paint was applied by someone who's been painting for 25 yrs...." * Dear Lord...we hear this all the time... * After some inquiry to a "paint-problem", we usually find it's just plain ignorance of a Home-owner or Painter. Lack of prep, the wrong prep.....the list is endless. * We just had an incident where a "professional painter" did a large interior area. The customer came back to us and said the paint looked different at the edges.... * Turns out...the painter had done a 2nd cut-in...AND LEFT IT THAT WAY!!!! * "Well he's been painting for 20 yrs." was the initial response... (I think I need to start drinking....!!) 3) MANY companies' (including ACE) dark-tint bases are "Combo-bases". * Meaning...the SAME Cherry-Chocolate color you may use on your Accent-wall, goes into the EXACT SAME can that you'd buy to trim your Exterior. * These are labled as "Interior/Exterior" on ACE's cans. Comments (34)maddie260 I'm not sure it's always the #1 consideration. In my case, the grade of paint is often not considered at all. Many painters will bid and include a cheaper, usually average grade. Homeowners typically know nothing about paint and leave it up to the painter - wouldn't even think to ask about it if it weren't for me making it an issue. So, it's an ongoing discussion for me. Painters saying the top tier, luxury brands are a waste of money and me pushing back because I know the better paints will make the color selections I was hired to choose render accurately and look better overall. Which is the reason for the infographic. I need the data to demonstrate that the top tiers and luxury brands are more affordable priced per square foot than many painters think they are. Plus, it's hard to argue with data. And it comes in handy when the painter starts in with the "I have 20 years of experience and XYZ average paint has always worked fine" schtick. I don't have time to argue about interior paint products. I need 'em to do what I need 'em to do and get it done the way I want it done. Fun2BHere I'm in Phoenix and there are a couple BenM stores and several ACE stores that do sell BenM. The BenM pro stores aren't exactly close to me and altho the ones around here are very nice, an ACE Hardware just isn't the same as a real Benjamin Moore pro/dealer store. lascatx I know what you mean. The BenM stores here close at 5:30. I either have to trek over there first thing in the morning or on Saturday morning....See MoreMittens Cat
