Wow! Thank you everyone for the great responses!!! I usually hang out in the house building and kitchen forum and I'm thrilled to see this forum tends to be just as great! I'm not planning on putting up window treatments anytime soon for a few reasons (have other things I want to buy first, no need for the privacy with them due to no houses behind us, and would hate to cover up the trim at the top). I'm glad to see mixed responses because I feel that's exactly what I have about the whole issue! Olychick, those photos helped tremendously and give me peace of mind about it because I think those rooms are beautiful. Thanks again! P.S. Any suggestions on how to do window treatments without covering my molding on the top?

Les, you are correct, this isn't our bedroom, though we've slept in it enough that it was temporarily (during construction) I guess I'm a creature of habit. Having been in my old home for 23yrs the ceiling fan and my bed were both centered in the middle of the bedroom and the ceiling fan was centered over the bed. I like the cool breeze - from Miami, need I say more? The dresser is opposite the bed, straight ahead. Closet is REALLY tiny, not even a twin bed would slide in there, I have a double. Not sure what I'll do with the valance. Had them all over the house. Personally, I like them, but everyone told me they were ugly and outdated. I still have them, I may just surprise the nay-sayers at some point later on. Nates, the table is square Forboystoo, Though I actualy loather Ethan Allen, I like the bed, have the dresser & hutch that goes with it. It's my daughters set from her bedroom, not an heirloom but like the way it goes in that room. We had a twin, full and queen to move in this house (and our king, but that was a given) and had to decide which way to go. We figured we'd get more out of the full and queen and got rid of the twin - hated doing so because that room was suppose to be the twin room - I would not be having issues if this stayed the way I initially intended (had sheets and window coverings to for the twin already) BUT, we've already been in the position that the full & queen were the right way to go, we've had visitors, the twin would not have worked. I guess it's me, and me being a creature of habit. We extended our master bedroom a few months ago by about 3 feet and we moved the fan over to have it centered over the bed, just like I had it in my old house. It's not centered in the middle of the room. I guess it's what feels comofortable. I guess we all have some quirks, and I know I have my share :) SIL is coming today for a visit with her BF, once she's gone I'll have to get in that room and see how the cubes will look with the bed the way it is. I'll take some pictures of it shifted over to post. This is just one room - there's so much to do in this house! Thanks again to you all!

I love the first one for a little girl and it will look great without a footboard just with that pretty headboard by itself. It will look even prettier if you have an eyelet bedskirt or some kind of bedskirt that is white. I have a bed with an Rustic Ivory Iron Headboard with no footboard due to the size of my bedroom and I am very happy I chose no footboard to make my room appear smaller with less walking room. If I had a big bedroom, I would love a footboard. I also had a Stanley Fiasco and despite missing the styling of the Cottage Revival Furniture (I loved the bun feet and beadboard sides that were really veneered wood over particle board but pretty.... I do not miss the mismatched furniture, peeling paint, spintered and chipped runner, holes in back of bureaus, and many other quality control issues) , I love the fact that my solid Maple Wood Durham Furniture (Royal Cottage in Sand White) came to me in such wonderful shape and MATCHING and did not waste 2 weeks of my time due to the poor quality control from Stanley and the Kearny, NJ store actually allowing furniture that was so mismatched in color with so much damage to be delivered to my home. I sure wish I found my new retail store in Flemington, NJ first since I am sure (based on what they told me and seeing how wonderful they were with my Durham Delivery) they would have never let furniture with that quality enter my home based on what they have told me when I showed them the pictures of the Stanley Furniture. Also The Durham furniture was ready in 6 weeks rather than 11 weeks like the Stanley Furniture.

Yes, you can order just the headboard and use a heavy duty bed frame. That's what I did with the Charles P Rogers iron bed in my guest room. I love the look of the footboard but didn't have much space. Brass Beds of Virginia also offers a low footboard for its iron beds. I like that option better than no footboard because I think the interlocking frame makes for a more sturdy bed. If you go to their website and click on a bed you like you might be able to see an illustration of what the low footboard option would look like.
