Kitchen Remodel under 10k - partially done
Comments (18)Thanks everyone. I do love the Elkay sink. I am happy with the 2/3, 1/3 divide. The 1/3 area is fine for a dish drain for fragile items. I usually have a wineglass, vase or plate I don't want to put in the dishwasher. I also love that I can wash cookie sheets without sloshing water all over. The two best changes I'd have to say are the new dishwasher and the large burner on the cooktop. The dishwasher will clean just about anything with no rinsing. With my old dishwasher I would rinse, put them in the dishwasher and wipe them again with a wet paper towel when taking them out. The large burner on the cooktop has been such a timesaver for boiling water for pasta. This is the first time I have ever replaced functioning appliances (though the use of the word functioning is questionable when referring to my old dishwasher) in my life. It was such a step outside of my comfort zone....See Moreour humble budget, DIY kitchen remodel progress
Comments (23)Wow, absolutely gorgeous! I need to study this in much more detail later for my planned kitchen reno (still planning...) , but for now, did you look into the distance between that range and the 15" deep uppers? I had asked here, https://www.houzz.com/discussions/dilemma-pro-range-hood-and-ikea-15-uppers-dsvw-vd~5416025 I had asked, So, the plan was to get a 30" Viking gas range, 36" hood, and IKEA cabinets, which are 15" deep for the uppers. Kind of like this but wider hood. Reading the installation guide, I now see that a minimum of 18" distance between range and hood (check) as well as 6" side clearance are required if the uppers are deeper than 13" (which they are). I was basically told that this set up above is a no no with IKEA's new deeper uppers unless I pull the base cabs forward....See MorePartial Kitchen renovation question
Comments (10)Lovely dinosaur - I would get quotes on doing all 3 things (painting vs replacing only the uppers vs all new cabinets). I am in a similar position where my kitchen needs some updating but my cabinets are in good shape. I got quotes for doing all 3. For my kitchen, painting would cost about $5,000. Replacing just the upper cabinets with ones that went to the ceiling (and I only have an 8 ft ceiling) was 80% of the cost of all new cabinets. I was surprised that the prices were so close, but the cabinet maker explained that most of the cost of the cabinets is the doors. I don't blame you for wanting to get rid of the tile countertops. I would too. Get some quotes, see where you're at budget wise, then make a decision....See MorePartial Kitchen reno, need opinions, suggestions
Comments (12)IMO removing that wall will create no end of issues not to mention the flooring needing some TLC. You will need to block off a doorway to move the fridge and make that wall workable and unless you have the budget to replace flooring you can.t remove the raised bar area to maybe accommadate an island. I think you need to step back and wait to do this properly.Mixing cabinet styles and colors is best left to real pro or it will be a mess. Moving plumbing is another issue along withthe electrical in that LR wall. IMO cabinets for bases are a bad choice and drawers are just a better way to go so I don’t see the point in adding more useless storage....See Moredeb s
