Need help in choosing color of replacement windows
Comments (8)I'm interested to hear that sliders are out and casements in; we're replacing our windows as part of a remodel and were encouraged to use sliders by our contractor and window installer (Milgard). We're in Oregon, maybe things are different in various parts of the country? In any event, I would probably go with white windows (that's what we're using) but then again I tend towards the safe and boring. I think white is pretty standard in a lot of houses, so it's unlikely to look dated....See MoreWhat color would you choose?
Comments (16)Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, I do not have a pic of the house when it was dark gray in my phone. I like the idea of staining the door a darker color like mahogany. It seems like the majority says go with the gray family. The painter suggested gray also but I think he was thinking more of a lighter gray. I will get some large samples of some suggested colors and put against the stone....See MoreWhich replacement window and type of install should I choose?
Comments (16)I'm still mulling over the best window options over here and figured I would simplify my questions to the following four I am still mulling over--keeping in mind I plan to be in my home for decades, so hoping to get a window that lasts! Material--would you recommend vinyl, fiberglass or fibrex for a midwest/broad temperature range climate? Warranty--would a lifetime warranty sway you into an inferior product? Sliders--when it comes to replacing two single-hung windows with sliders--do you think one brand outperforms others in this type of window? Anything to be aware of when choosing sliders over casement...other than the very slight difference in efficiency? Brands--I think I'm down to Window World, Marvin (Essential) or Andersen (100). Which would you choose and why?...See MoreWhat color replacement windows (other than white) would look good?
Comments (10)I think the contrast between your gravel mulch and the stone could be an issue. Stone may also recess the windows more than you'd expect. I would go with masonry paint (Romabio) all around if it is cheaper. Stone can be done later if you're not happy with paint. I think a bit more landscaping will camouflage the foundation better.. Emphasize the front door with color and simplify the windows. Are they to be vinyl and how paintable are they? Major paint companies do make appropriate paints for non-wood installations that would work if you want to change to black. Be aware that making changes to the original finish on the windows may invalidate the warranty....See MoreEndra White
