Outdated wood trim needs updating!
Comments (19)I painted the wood trim throughout my 2000 sq ft house after living with it for almost 30 years. I was dead set against painting good wood. My SIL finally convinced me to paint the wood trim. This included all the door trim, the window trim, the baseboards and staircase. Painted it all Atrium White, Satin. The rooms looked updated and much larger. The wood color was pulling the room and your eye towards the floors which are wood oak. The new white paint pulls your eyes up to the ceiling which is also Atrium White Ceiling....See MoreISO: paint suggestions to lighten up a room with dark wood paneling
Comments (25)Thank you Betsy! I really do love the aesthetic of Studio McGee. I've been using their work as inspirational images. I also appreciate your suggestions for the stairs and the beams. Now my question is what should we do about the color in the rest of our house? Can we keep it the same and fine a white that will go with it or do we have to paint everything else as well?...See MoreInput on paint colors, trim decisions , fireplace and general updates
Comments (10)I really love the look of wood and I would keep as much of the wood as possible. Your house has lots of wood, and as best I can tell from the pictures, the woods mostly agree with each other. Your fireplace wall is mostly overall a light warm pink. Your other woods look like they have a warm tone as well. Even your dark doors have a warm brown with orange highlights. Have you thought about going warmer with the color for your walls? The wall and ceiling colors need to accent the wood beams, wood flooring, wood railings as well as the wood doors. As much as I like the modern gray/white look, I don't think grays do as much for wood as other colors. Why be tied to white trim? If you find a warm color you like, there are other colors that the paint company suggests for trim and ceiling that accent the wall color, which in turn would accent your wood. In one of our homes we did the unthinkable by experts. We stained our poplar wood trim and wood doors with a dark antique stain. It turned out very well. The wood looked antique and we received lots of compliments. Disclaimer: I'm not expert, I just know what I like....See MoreHow to lighten/update kitchen without changing cabinets or counters!
Comments (13)First thing…you need more recessed lighting, with brighter LED bulbs. Also, those pendants are strictly down lights, with a narrow stream of light.. Find pendants that provide both uplighting, and downlighting…with a broader beam…something either open on top, or glass. Secondly, I have no problem with the black counters. After all, I have soapstone in my wood kitchen. However, the black backsplash is a major problem. If you would change that out for a light colored tile, you’d see a huge difference in the feel of the kitchen. Perhaps repaint the dark grey bar area in a similar shade of the new backsplash. Here’s my kitchen…wood cabs, soapstone, celadon green backspash, and lots of lighting…including two halophane glass semi-flush pendants. You’ll have to enlarge the first pic, to see the semi-flush fixture. Do you have undecabinet lights? If not, think about getting them…they make a huge difference in a kitchen’s brightness. You can see in the pics above, mine are on....See MorePetra S.
