Comments (74)Wow, lisa, it looks great! What a difference flooring can make! ;) I'm with patricia, I think it looks really nice. I'd sit on it awhile and see how it feels to you. However, since you're getting an estimate, I went ahead with doodles with new carpeting ;) Some are below. I did separate by wood (doors, trim, crown, built-in) so I can paint/leave any combination of wood you'd like to see. IOW, just doors + trim, just built-in, or whole room, etc. so any combination/color is just a click away, feel free to ask ;) I'm getting ready to leave, will be gone most of the day, but will check in later. Oh, in answer to your question about getting paint off the oak, try just rubbing it with a damp cotton rag (t-shirt material), well wrung out. Paint will eventually start to dissolve a bit. To get the worst off, wrap it in a thin layer around something that won't gouge the wood, like a plastic, non-serrated knife or plastic putty knife. (Wouldn't use a metal putty knife, that will gouge if you slip.) Goof-off will also work. Rubbing alcohol will also take if off, but that might harm the finish of the wood. I'm not liking the darker colors, I'll try to get something better on there. Virtual paint doesn't render well as a 'stain'. ;) Original, as is with new carpeting: Cream Homespun Linen Sleigh Bed (med brown) Shiraz (Dark Brn) Ebony(ish) Saddle...See MoreYikes, Let's Re-Decorate the Dining Room
Comments (1306)If it helps anybody here, my husband, myself, my daughter, and my son in law (all HCW) have all had the first vaccine, with only a sore arm for 24-48 hours being the only side effect to report. With 94% efficacy, and my husband's constant risk of exposure at his office, we are more than thrilled to get the shot and hoping to get back to a more normal state soon. Our small community has been hit hard, we have lost several personal friends, colleagues, including a physician and medical assistant, dear neighbors, and basically Covid has been devastating here. We were able to turn that bonus room upstairs into a most delightful "Playroom" and our grandchildren have enjoyed hours of fun there and they clamor to run there when they are here playing. I am so thrilled that we got busy and moved all the "Junque" into storage and created a space that is absolutely worry free and kid friendly. And, Molly, I bet your space is finished and gorgeous now! Its great to refine space and define life at every age and stage. My last BIG adjustment is preparing for my husband's retirement which will be official April 2021. Any of you houzzers have a husband that has retired with any great tips on sharing house space, I would love to hear. We personally have decided to create his office in (GASP) our dining room. Omg.....I never thought I would give up the dining room. But, POUF, like magic, we moved the table upstairs and moved the desk in its place. And, I'm good with it. We do have an office upstairs, but he prefers to have the view and proximity downstairs, and I agree. Yikes! My daughter will be hosting family dinners, and we will have casual eating in the breakfast room and our kitchen bar. Tell me I'm not crazy!...See MoreBlinded By the Light (of bright white cabinets---yikes)
Comments (46)I've had to solve a similar problem. I have Sherwin WIlliams Extra White on all my trim in my bedroom but my floors are a mid toned (warm) wood and my bed is yellow poplar. I decided to go with Incredible White after lots of swatches & thinking. It's perfect. There's enough contrast that the wall color & trim are clearly different colors but it's also "white." And to me it's the perfect one to straddle the warm/cool divide. I tried Incredible white, Shoji White, Aesthetic White & Eider White. Shoji was a little too yellow, Aesthetic too beige, & Eider was too blue in my lighting. I would think about your cabinets as being "trim" and not try to do a 100% match with the wall color. I think incredible white would look lovely as a bright "white" backdrop for your larger living space. Good luck! I can't wait to follow along & see what you do! These 2 blog posts were insanely helpful in trying to narrow down the colors. I 'chose' SW because my painter prefers them. The closest BM color (per easyrgb.com) is Silver Satin. https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/the-best-off-white-neutral-paint-colours-undertones-and-more/ https://www.rughdesign.com/2018/05/08/the-best-white-paint-colors-undertones-explained/...See MoreYikes! Comments (108)Just to come back and update this thread, I just really lucked out and decided to manage this rental hime myself. I advertised it on Zillow and had it rented quickly to a great family who took care of it very nicely. They lived there 18 months, I Re-listed it on Zillow and had 24 applications! I raised the rent, and now have a lovely small family that lives the neighborhood. This has been a great rental home investment....See MoreRedRyder
