I do have some gold TONES in some things, but no brass. Just not sure I will ever be buying anything brass, but some of my upholstery and colors of books and photo frames are warm in tones. Thanks for the advice. I WILL hang Papa George for sure and figure out something for other side that is a good height balance that I may already have. I think a mirror would look good, but I think you also need to address what is on the mantel shelf as well. You've got a lot of different and not entirely compatible textures, colors and warm/cool hues going on in the room, between the flooring, carpet, wall color, hearth ledge, brick, etc. And the mantel shelf isn't really a mantel. Are you planning on staying in this house for a while? Is it worthwhile to you to make anything more than cosmetic changes to the mantel area?

Hard to judge without seeing more of room. Agree that items should be removed from mantel as detracts from strong detail of art. Agree maybe pillow in foreground is too “matchy” with art but again hard to say with limited view of room. Can we see more? That aligator / crocodile on mantel kind of whimsical - maybe it stays on mantel - remove the book he’s holding & slide him to left side by TV - remove the other photos etc which aren’t being displayed effectively there.
