? for Bill V. re tile grout color change
Comments (1)Did you post this in the kitchens forum, as well? I just answered another post over there very similar to this. Usually when sealer turns white, it's because there's still moisture in the grout. It needs to be completely dried before sealing, or you get this white haze on the top of the joint which is unbelieveably difficult to get rid of....See MoreScared to finish
Comments (10)my vote goes right along with 'wackyweeder'... I also love the black and charcoal grout look. charcoal will give you a bit of forgiveness to go ahead and put a wash of something else over any area you don't like..and want to change a small area of color. but from what I see, the charcoal will define the entire piece and in my personal opinion, the grout is what makes a mosaic look like a mosaic..meaning the color in between each individual piece, to define it, rather than a solid color, like a painting. I also love the look of pieces being pressed into the base, like the thinset, to give it that 'memory jar' look.. I've always been a huge fan of that but your piece is much more refined than that. and did you snag one of your kid's skateboards for this? will they miss it or did you replace it?..lol...See MoreGrout color changes
Comments (5)Your reply reflects my dilemma. You say all colors will bleach, so I assume that means black grout will turn lighter. This suggests a light color is most resistant to color change due to UV bleaching. Then you say that the grout will stain and black will still be black years later. This suggests a light color least resistant to color change due to staining. Perhaps what you are saying is that even though the black will bleach it will also get stained at the same time so it will remain black? It might be worth pointing out that this tile is on a rooftop deck, it's not at ground level where it could be exposed to a lot of dirt and such. It will be exposed to whatever particulate contaminants are in the air and when it rains (not too often in Los Angeles) whatever dirt on my walls and adjacent roof will be washed onto the deck. I'm not sure it will have enough dirt exposure to ever be "stained to hell and back". It might be, I don't know if the grout will eventually get dirty simply because it is outside even if it is not directly exposed to lots of actual dirt?...See MoreWhich grout color looks best?
Comments (23)I like the FP better for the results it gives. More costly, yes...and a bit more work to install....but a better product, IMHO....See MoreAmelia Kay
