Counter tops for extra long island (seam or change of material)?
Comments (20)ugh.... we are just at this point now and realized that our new counter/breakfast bar is 12' with the sink cutout dead center. My wife is stuck on an undermount and we really wanted granite... we will, of course, be getting a few fabricators to bid it. But is it feasible to do the seam with a cutout at the seam? The front edge of the sink seems a bit vulnerable to me. Also the current layout has the dishwasher adjacent to the sink and I guess we'd need to get the cabinet built with a support at the seam. If we can seam at the sink it would be small, just the length of the front setback (breakfast bar transitions to countertop there)... how well does the bullnose normally line up on a seam? Do they polish it on-site? Are we better off getting used to NOT granite? The 12' counter is not negotiable in our design....See Morequestionable fabricator of our soapstone counter tops
Comments (10)Florida Joshua installed our soapstone in May. We have a seam in our sink . . . . that you can't find. People have to search to find the 3 seams in our stone, because they are hard to see/feel. He used a black epoxy, it looks like your fabricator used white? And the bit about soapstone being porous and the water seeping in? Puhlease. False. Here's my sink. The seam is in the lower left hand side of the sink, about 3 inches in. Good luck trying to find it. This is freshly oiled. This is 3 months after install. We aren't oilers. As you can see, not having the stone oiled doesn't affect seeing the seam....See MoreGranite Countertop seam question
Comments (7)I am a fabricator. The grain match across the seam is poorly done. It is possible the pieces came from the same slab as many "builder grade" slabs have that much grain and color variation from one end to the other. That said, look at the piece to the left. If it was rotated 180 degrees would the other end match the sink piece better? If yes then it's definitely a fabricator error. If not it's still worth asking for the mismatched piece to be replaced. If it means a sale/no sale to the contractor he will almost certainly lean on the granite guy to fix it....See MoreSeam in granite counter top
Comments (51)Seeing this in 2024 and that seam is TERRIBLE! Either the technology has completely improved or people saying it’s completely fine just have a very low standard. 😳I have never signed off a counter with seems like this, nor will I....See MoreSimeng Liu
