Orange Brick w/ Black Roof shutter color

Hey all, I just bought this home and am wondering if you think it needs a “brighten up” on the shutters? It’s covered in shade by the trees in front, so I’m curious if it looks too dark. Maybe simply brightening the front door up would help? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

It's really cute and the front door is indeed a dark hole. Does the front door have any interesting geometric shapes on it to match the (very-cool-don't-ever-remove them) panels under the windows? If so, black and white (mostly white) would be nice. If it's a boring door like most, a bright color would be the way to go.

If it's still dark after brightening the front door and evaluating your landscaping, white on the shutters would brighten it up a lot. It's just hard to keep white shutters clean in most locations.

I like the darker shutters. Agree that those panels under the window are really nice. I would brighten up the door color, so it looks brighter and more cheerful. I would also replace the light fixture next to the door with something a little bigger, and not quite so dark. Landscaping needs some new plantings. A pot or two close to front door with a lot of color would look nice.

You could try it without shutters, if that is allowed. If not, black Or sage green Either would be beautiful :) I'm sorry I don't have specific colours to suggest.

Thank you all so much for your comments! Just to clarify... I have black louvered shutters on all windows on the front of the house (as shown in the 2nd photo). The first photo shows how it looks since we have removed a few shutters for repair and paint prep. I have seen a lot of tone on tone or lighter colored shutters and began wondering if my black w/white siding on top of multi-color old brick looked too dated. The back of the house has 4 casement windows (upper) and 2 lower. We have never had shutters on these. I noticed that my photos - front and back yard - look almost mirror-image! But that was just a coincidence. Thanks again to you all! Picking out paint colors is tougher than it looks! :)

try using a latex paint remover. you can find it at the big stores. grab a stiff wire brush and a bucket of water. it should work enough so that you don't see it. I photoshopped a few doors/colors/address plaques and lights for you. see what you like. ('cuz that 1950's grandma front door needs to go along w/those shutters!) I like the black option w/copper. the copper will compliment the brick color and the black always looks good w/both I like this door. And, you might think about painting the trim around the windows (did you notice I covered up all your shutters?? looks good huh?) in a darker trim color. gave you this mahogany glass panel door. modern black numbers, a modern chair. I'd paint the other door one of these dark colors, bring in a more modern light. If black is too harsh, think about Urbane Bronze or Iron Ore. both look great w/orange brick. try something modern like this w/the numbers, potted plants, lighting, Here is an orange brick house with complimentary colors and light fixtures. another nice door color is a peacock blue, sage, blue/green, tone soft blue/green with copper and your orange brick always look good Yam color door, bronze light, warm wood and gray tones also work. Here's a door w/natural wood. black mailbox and light (but I like the others above better) are those posts cedar or painted? These color palettes are also perfect w/your brick. (don't forget to paint your side door too.

Sage green is the first color that comes to mind. I'm usually very against painting brick, but I think it could work here if you wanted to go more of a cream color all over.

I would paint the front door a different color.

The triple window is not meant to have shutters. If you remove them you will see what I mean.

The front door does have a bit of design to it, but I don’t think it’d allow for dual color like black and white. I was thinking of painting the door a bright but soft green.

You suggest taking the shutters off the sides of the triple window?

Shutters need to look like that could be functional. Those are obviously fake. I am not fond of the "panel" below the other windows or the extra long shutters either.
