It's September-- How is your build progressing?
Comments (64)For those who saw my message in the other thread about granite, tomorrow is our re-install day for the island...in ONE SLAB. We'll see how it goes. Otherwise, we're coming to an end soon. Still waiting on new info on our first floor tile (pull out all of it and replace with new? get matching color code tiles? who knows!) and they're still working on grout issues in the master. But the remainder of our appliances are due tomorrow, too (damaged upon arrival last week...sheesh), then it's inspection after inspection. I have been very lax on pictures lately, but will try to get updated tomorrow. Kitchen is mostly what has happened since last pictures, so I will try to post this weekend. Everyone has such beautiful houses and property. It's been a lot of fun watching all the houses go up. We might be in our new place the first week of October...fingers crossed. Closing on our old house was today and it was a fiasco. Can't believe how rude some agents are. I wanted to smack the buyer's agent so bad, I had to actually leave the closing before everything was completed. DH had to bring final papers outside to the car for me to sign! But at least we are sold and don't have to carry two houses...just have to live in temporary digs for a couple of weeks. Good luck everyone!...See MoreIt's September 2014, How's your Build?
Comments (150)JDez- making good progress. Two steps forward, one step back it seems- doesn't it? But, still forward:-) Yesterday afternoon, the gate bell rang and the city inspector handed me our official CO. We have a kerfluffle about the pool- it works just fine but the pool inspectors need to look under the hood, so to speak- which will necessitate tearing stuff up. Oh joy:/ GC is blaming the pool guy who installs pools all over the country just fine. I blame the GC, who should have smelled trouble but repeatedly told us everything was fine from afar. All of that could have been checked up to a few weeks ago when the coping and equipment went in. Oh well, it beats some of the teardown stories I've seen here. I am working on glass and mirrors right now. My pocket office gets 1/2 inch glass which I am finding to be fairly reasonable in the bids. Really want to set my desktop and printer up again SOON! But, I do like the lack of clutter in the space right now. One of the glass tops goes on the breakfast nook tabletop which is walnut- I broke out the sewing machine and made some temporary cushions for the space, which I think turned out okay. Comments (39)Well, how about a mid-month update? :) It has been crazy with building and gettina all the kids back to school. We have a roof, hvac, and rough plumbing is complete. We got our fireplace installed and now they are working on the wiring. Our windows and doors will start to go in tomorrow. Hopefully we can get the housewrap and siding on soon as we are in Oregon and the sunny days we are having could come to an end any time! We have been living on site since mid July and it has been great for keeping things on track, but hard to have a life apart from the house. It's a good thing we are enjoying the process. Congrats to Jaymie and Laney! How exciting for you guys to be in! Your homes are beautiful. Jaymie, you have done a fabulous job with your home. The attention to detail and how you carried the style all the way through on all of your design decisions is apparent and the result is wonderful. You should send some pics to the Mascord people, they might add you to their site!...See MoreIt's September 2014. How is your build? Part 3
Comments (95)Framer pointed out to me today that our architect's drawings assume 14" thick joists, but the joist company sent us 11 7/8", as indicated in the joist plan. Architect was on his way to the site to discuss changing out my "post" made of 2x6s for a steel post that's more attractive. So we discussed the fact that our house is going to be 6" shorter than planned. It's a problem because we wanted the house taller, but the city wouldn't allow it. On the upside, we can get an extra 6" of headroom on the 3rd floor, where it's desperately needed. On the downside, the floor of the 3rd floor is now 6" lower, which reduces our view. We'd have liked it to be a foot HIGHER. We would have made the lower floor ceilings higher. But now our 3rd floor deck is lower, so we'll need to build a platform up there so we can see over tree tops. Boo. Architect swears that the joist company pulled a last minute switch. He claims he had designed for a 12" joist, but the joist company spec'd 14" ones, and he spent an evening stretching all the joists in Autocad. But I looked at all our different versions of joist plans, and we never had 14" ones spec'd. I think this goes into the list of things he would have caught if he'd actually READ the joist plan. But, hey, more headroom on the 3rd floor means more useable floor space, since the ceilings are sloped. DH wouldn't be able to stand anywhere but right in the middle in the original plan. Musicgal, fall in Vermont is spectacular. But I think you're there a couple of weeks early....See MoreRelated Professionals
