Textured tile for shower walls- bad idea?
Comments (6)I am fretting over a similar decision, but the tile I like is even more textured. I asked about cleaning it. It was obvious you couldn't used a sponge or cloth on it ever - you would have to use a brush which wouldn't be the end of the world. What made me pause was the idea of funky things hanging out in the crevices of the parts of the shower that you missed with the brush! I still think about that tile but I just can't see how it would work. Here is a link that might be useful: I just love this tile!...See MoreOil Rubbed Bronze Steam Shower Hardware - powder coat bad idea?
Comments (0)IÂm trying to choose hardware (hinges, D handle/towel bar combo, brackets or maybe u-channel) for my STEAM shower that is being built, fixtures are Oil Rubbed Bronze. IÂm hearing that some manufacturers make powder coated aluminum for their oil rubbed bronze (Agalite being one of them - IÂm told the powder coating wonÂt hold up over the long run), others anodized bronze, others some other treatment over brass ??? IÂm totally confused. The worst part is the only shade of Oil Rubbed Bronze IÂve seen that reasonably matches the Oil Rubbed Bronze hardware in my bathroom (shower fixtures, door knob, towel hangers, lamps, faucets, etc.) are the powder coated surfaces IÂve seen. Anything other than powder coated IÂve seen essentially looks black itÂs such a very dark bronze that itÂs hard to tell from black and definitely wonÂt match anything I have (IÂve seen CR LaurenceÂs oil rubbed bronze and whatever hardware Holcam uses for their anodized bronze both of which essentially look black). So can someone illuminate me if using powder coated hinges, brackets (or u-channel) and D handle/towel bar combos is a BAD idea for a steam shower? Or does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes non-powder coated hinges/brackets/u-channel/handles in an Oil Rubbed Bronze that doesnÂt look black? Comments (5)1. Slippery, even at only 6" in size. Not small enough to have enough grout lines for slip resistance. 2. Soap scum and hard water deposits. All of that will show up almost instantly on a shiny black surface. 3. Additional lighting will be needed. A dark surface needs a lot more lumens to achieve the same well lit appearance. 4. It's not a traditional material to use for a shower. Probably would work great stylistically in a modern house. Not so much in a Georgian....See MoreMarble countertops - bad idea next to rangetop?
Comments (1)" Would it be better to do a different material on that wall?" Yes. From one messy cook to another, consider solid surface. No grout lines, no sealing, no staining ever, goes with everything....See Moregirl_wonder
