Chucked in some pimento, nutmeg and cinnamon for a trial. Got the skin from a mate of mine who runs a smallgoods factory but butchers will have them. Used a pork neck and flavoured the outside with black pepper/glucose mix I think to get the lactic acid formation. No sign of 'green' which is a good sign and it smells OK. Was very particular re hygiene (That's the old Food Technologist coming out) Maybe I'll do one for Marysville.(There are plenty of toilets in the houses - just joking)...See MoreMeyer lemon in ground in zone 7b?
Comments (16)Hi Parker, that’s interesting you mention grafting to another rootstock. There is actually a type of citrus tree directly next to the area I’d like to plant. I don’t know if it is wild, or was planted by previous owners (+ 12 years ago). It has the trifoliate (sp?) type leaf and produces two or three perfectly golf ball sized inedible fruit. It is the thorniest tree I have ever seen, so I just prune it to six feet tall or so, to keep it neat looking. The southern blight had no effect on it. So I suppose this might be a sign that a citrus rootstock may be able to survive - I could plant the original which is grafted. Thanks....See MorePrague Citsuma not doing much
Comments (18)What a fall season: i had severe insect infestations this season indoors, still fighting fungus gnats. the fact that I side drill pots like steve has gnats running into the very bottom and sides since their elevated for drainage. Yellow stickers all over, just ordered mosquito bits, went through a case of peroxide. luckily no mites or scale, least its under control. Then right after fixing my basement ceiling and hanging new lights (to the day) my daughter drags a whole bunch of her problem plants down and put them in my space......I never got to properly arrange anything and got overcrowded temporarily and was treating her plants not setting up mine. Then I unknowingly created a hot spot when I extended grow area into a corner with interior brick walls, hitting near 100 degrees near the ceiling, leaf drop went crazy. I raised lights and pulled bulbs, moved plants around cut back light timers, played with the window and fan settings until I finally found equilibrium and now getting new growth. Compounding this almost all needed a repot which should have been done outside not inside when I had a hose. I may have two casualties a grafted morton and a miho wase that was roughly repotted....as far as the prague, one look at lauras and you can see that its spindly. A very vigorous trifoliate (or hybrid) rootstock that still goes dormant for a future cutting might be a valid answer as bob suggests. Right now I'm just hoping mine develops some more roots and gets through the winter....See MorePrague citsuma in ground update
Comments (22)Hi Steve! I looked through some of the posts and saw that your trees are also well. Alexander is fine - full of flowers. I think he took some time off from holding fruit. Maybe he needed a break and I also think he may need a root trim and some freshening up of the 5-1-1. I feel so much better this year with the tree situation because I can light them better, check for bugs, and it’s much easier to water them. Alexander is in that corner - hard to see but he’s there. :)...See More
