Comments (3)I think the space would open up if you removed the wainscot. It is creating a "box" that stops the eye and says, "That's all, folks!" I agree with Suki Kabuki that the ladder shelves must go. They always remind me of college decor, along with milk crate shelves. Consider putting the TV on the wall where the ladder shelves are, floating the sofa facing it and moving the dining table near the window where you now have the TV area. I think you should eliminate one of rugs and only use one at the sofa. The two side tables by the TV are cluttering, but you might use the taller one by a sofa arm if it arrives within and inch of it, up or down. Comments (17)First off. You did great. Before seeing the pictures I expected a lot worse. So 👏👏. Anyways I like the furniture the other way. Forsure. The couch belongs in front/ facing the tv. Yes to a new rug. I like the first one you posted. I’d try it out. Love the pillows. Especially the Cognac ones. But maybe spread them out. Move some to the chairs. And other areas in the home. Seems hard to find a spot to sit lol. I would maybe consider a new coffee table too. Great space....See MoreLiving Room/Dining Room Dilemma

Comments (16)Just a few personal opinions: Many New England homes have 8' ceilings; the 1905 I grew up in had 8 1/2. Pot lights at that height are visually jarring to me and compromise the serenity of an expanse of ceiling. Also, people tend to put in too many because once they decide on that option, more is not excessively costly. The result is a runway look. For an early 1900's home you're dealing with plaster and lath unless someone already tore it out. Once you make holes in that, you can lose the plaster - especially on a ceiling it can pull away from the lath. Then, dusty reno mess and call the sheet rockers....See MorePN _Bos
