Help choosing throw pillows
My apartments living room is mostly finished, and it's very neutral in tone. I'm ready to start adding in more color. I wanted to add in colorful throw pillows to help with that.
I was thinking blue or red pillows with a bold graphic print to compliment the art. I've attached a pic of a pillow I was considering at the bottom of the pics
The style is mid century-modern. I have as much mid century as I want so far, and am looking to finish out the rest of look with modern.
Looking to add something more to the coffee table besides the glass birds I have too. Maybe a green plant of some sort.
What do you guys think?

I think you need to add some different curtains, a faux hide throw blanket and some geometric patterns. I assume that the TV is a cross from the sofa, have you thought to add a sofa table behind to pull the sofa into the room a little more?

Comments (19)Beverly—I wish I could center it in front of the fireplace!! You can’t tell from the pictures, but the windows and fireplace are not centered on each other. If you center on one, the other even more out of whack! And when you place furniture so you can see the TV it is very skewed to one side of the rug. I don’t put the tree where the chairs are b/c that where I have to put my folding table for our Xmas meal. It’s the one we host and it’s only 6 people, and that’s where it fits while allowing people to use furniture too. I have struggled mightily with furniture and rug placement in here. The TV can’t go anywhere else unless you block a window (this is out only living room/tv room, gathering space) and the room is too narrow to place couch across it. It’s about 22 feet long and varies from 9 to 11 feet wide depending on where you measure. It’s also the only path to the master bedroom upstairs. Comments (3)Use colors from the rug and IMO not too many pillows . I think if you need to remove pillows to sit down you have too many pillows I would probably maybe forget pillows on what looks to be a small sofa and do anice colored throw aross on corner of the back instead. Comments (15)A piece of art yes. But do NOT choose something that "goes" with the room. Instead choose something that you love love love. Go to several art galleries. Take your time. If you get it home and it does not feel right in the room, don't worry; if you've chosen something you love, you will find a place for it elsewhere in the house and carry it with you through your life. If it works, you can take your cue from the artwork, not solely for throw pillows but also for a carpet, perhaps for curtains. No need to bankrupt yourself; just take your time. By the way, your taste is cautious but very elegant too, and that's okay; don't feel pushed in any direction you don't want to do. 4 years agoWow, thank you for the pictures! Yes my TV is across from the sofa as you can see in the below picture. Agreed, I need more colorful curtains. Originally I looked into using peel and stick wallpaper to create an accent wall around the doors to frame them more, but my walls are textured so peel and stick won't work.
I really love how in that one picture, they hung the curtains so high and wide that it became like an accent wall. I did add a small plant to my coffee table, and it's just what it needed.
As for a table behind the sofa, I do have a console table I could use, but as you can see from my pic at the bottom, my living room is very small. I fear pushing the couch forward would make the room feel squashy.

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoHere are some options for your TV wall if you want to add more art, maybe add an accent wall in a charcoal behind your console. This approach doesn't take up any more space but adds a lot of dimension to your living room. You made some good choices already.
As for your coffee table, make a small stack of books from your collection that you'd like to share with visitors. It's a small table so no need to fill it up.

4 years agoI switched my lamps so now my tripod lamp is in the corner by my couch and my table lamp sits next to my TV. I dragged in some vases I had in my bedroom to cover my router and modem. I don't like the sticks though. Do y'all think some fake green plants coming out of the taller vase would suffice, or would a full potted plant like the second pic be more fitting?

No fake plants. I don't think the sticks need to be in the vases at all. Down the road, think about placing some art you love on that wall instead of the stacked books.- PRO

I hung the pictures lower, and put a throw over the back of the chair. It's just something I had over my bed, but I plan to get a more textured throw later like y'all suggested. Maybe a faux fur one.
Right now, I'm looking for a long rod I can hang from one end of the wall to the other over the glass doors, and wide panels that will cover each wall on either side. Trying to turn it into sort of accent wall just by using curtains. See RL Relocations curtain pic above for reference.
I'm learning that larger fake plants can be a little expensive. The one I posted above is $500. I was wondering, if put some botanicals coming out of the taller white vase, would that be enough(examples below) or do y'all think a more substantial plant would be appropriate? Thanks again for all the advice!
