Comments (4)I see it less aqua..I see it a little bit gloomy sky color, on a fall day.. I don't know whether I'm right of course..monitor and all:) It really reads different sometimes..colors I mean. But imagine this sky, a bit gloomy, a bit washed out..is there any color on Earth that won't look good with it? They all will-they all have this sky above them and surrounding them. It won't limit your color choices. If anything-it will expand them. You can use other blues. Browns. Grays. Greens(I know you said you're not a fan). Yellows..especially the ones with a tint of green, like a lemons. Reds, tons of reds. Pinks. Especially a bit stronger, cooler pinks. My personal choice would be fuchsia..)) Whites-but of course. Lilac. Rusty oranges.. Depends whether you want to feel very calm-or invigorated. Calm calls for less contrast, similar colors, many textures, organic elements, like in wood for example. Bold calls for more complementary colors..and maybe adding small metallic touches-like silver or gold.. Now, from my experience..advice you didn't ask for..don't be in a hurry to purchase everything right away from the same store. I did that when we had to furnish an absolutely empty house..we bought a sofa, two chairs, a sectional, an ottoman.. It was great decision from a financial stand point. They had sale. We did have to furnish at least some of the space fast-family circumstances I won't go into. And I love the colors. No regret about colors But it's bugging me for 6 years already. Them being too similar..even though only two chairs share a color. They're both different from the sofa though. After that, I tried to mix and match as possible. You'll get more interesting space, if you buy a sofa here..a chair there..maybe you'll see an amazing sofa table you love in a year-and you'll know your space already, and will know it will fit your room like a glove. Your room, your style, you. I was so sad then that I couldn't afford immediately everything I wanted. Actually I couldn't afford it at all)) Because I never really been to stores before, in the US, and when I went to the stores-it became painfully obvious that I wanted very expensive things.. Now I'm happy I couldn't do that. If something saved me from being unhappy with my home most of the time-it was this necessity to wait... This experience might be totally irrelevant to you, and to the moment of life you're in now. But I still thought I'd share it....See MoreWhat colour scheme would you choose for a sleek modern kitchen?
Comments (30)Right, I've gone back and looked again at soapstone, and I now remember why I didn't give it much of a second glance: 1) we need a 3m slab or else need to have seams, and it doesn't come in pieces that big, and 2) it's too soft for us. We have 3 young children and an L-shaped overhang off of our island, which is a recipe for breakages with that particular material I think. I can just see someone accidentally slamming something down on the overhang bit or trying to swing on it or something and cracking off a section... Our family is hard on kitchen surfaces and I need something that's going to withstand a beating. It's also why we haven't gone with the single-sheet ceramic worktop (which I quite liked the look of as they're so thin and elegant and incredibly durable, but too thin for that overhang). Would rather not have multiple materials/heights there on the island (so, no L-shaped wood overhang on one corner, for example) as I find it too fussy and prefer to have one large big clean workspace for things like baking, making pizza, etc with the children. I absolutely love the kitchen of a friend of mine and it was my main inspiration pic. It's too dark for my space I think, but the island in particular is what I like. That's interesting about the German/Italian dynamic. I've been impressed by Italian ones in the past (I love a Varenna kitchen, just out of budget), but to be honest I met with about 3 different designers touting Italian kitchens when we were shopping earlier in the year, fully prepared to go Italian, and the ridiculousness of some of the form-over-function features we encountered (at a hefty price tag) really left an impression on me... it felt like they were being designed for people who like having large, beautiful kitchens but never actually cook. Features like hiding an already integrated fridge door behind another fairly cumbersome bigger door to create an 'ultra unkitchen', or keeping it 'clean' by only having a single pop-up island plug station to serve the whole bloody kitchen.... which looks great but HOW is that functional design for someone who, you know, actually cooks... or owns any appliances they use on a daily basis and don't want have to lug out of hiding every day... or maybe just drinks coffee from anything other than a French press? I digress. The annoyance is still there obviously, ha ha!! I'm sure they're not all like that, but a month or two of meetings had me running across the border to Germany!...See MoreBeige/yellow bedroom walls. What colour palette would work best?
Comments (5)I don't know your exact shade of color-everybody has their own mental image when hearing yellow/beige-but as somebody who lived with yellow walls..they're actually pretty versatile. I went with a vibrant palette of yellow-brick red-aubergine. Then as time went I added more colors in patterns etc. Blue would work of course. Maybe cornflower blue? Maybe turquoise? White and a bit of black. Greens since they work everwhere..bring a plant and you have a green:) But I also loved adding chartreuse. Look at lot of inspiration(can be decor but can also be art, or nature, and whatnot), and you'll feel what clicks with you the most. Decide what you like more -sharper contrasts? softer ones? As little contrast as possible? Do you want your room to be more upbeat or more quiet? there's no one right answer, we all are different and your personal reaction to colors and their relationships should govern your choices. And always strive to vary your textures. Then the room will be interesting even if you go with a very tight, almost monochromatic color palette....See MoreWhich color pottery/accent color looks best in my new kitchen?
Comments (29)Thank you all! For some reason the deep sea blue makes me happy (even though my daughter said it won't match my new kitchen or great room)... :( Here it is with some plates I found that I could put on my new plate rack. The blue one is Pioneer Woman....See Morejmw
