Mixed metal - Should my plumbing match?

I'm having trouble with mixing my metals in my bathroom. I have a semi-framed shower and it's brushed nickel... But I really want to include brass and maybe matte black into the scheme. Is it a rule of thumb to keep bathroom faucets, shower faucet, and tub faucet the same metal? All three plumbing fixtures are seperated.. So shower, seperate tub, and then the sinks near the tub.

If you do all the fixtures a different finish, it is going to look like you shopped at the sale bin and picked what you could find.

I kept all plumbing fixtures the same and added other finishes in sconces/pendants and knobs. Also pay attention to the finish of your door hardware because that might introduce one more finish to the mix.

In a small space such as a bathroom, I prefer that all the fixtures match.

Choosing a “gold tone” faucet is a tricky proposition. There are so many variations…Which finish do you like better? Faucets are more noticeable…you will see/touch them every time the bathroom is used. The light fixture would work better with faucets that are a satin, antique, less shiny brass finish. And if you’re black-framed mirror is metal…you’re already mixing metals.

Personally I prefer polished chrome and polished nickel, but I have traditional tastes. Satin finishes are more modern or contemporary, so it depends on your style. If possible, it's preferred that the finishes in a room coordinate even if they don't match exactly. For example, you can mix finishes, but I'd keep them to two if possible. If you're building a home from the ground up, and have the option of matching the hardware to the fittings, then that probably is the best route. So either all satin nickel, satin chrome, polished nickel or polished chrome. If it's too late to do that then I'd try to at least match the finishes if you can't match the metals. Hope that helps.

Bronze is supposed to replicate the natural oxidization of brass. There is no issue with mixing metals, in fact I think it a great look.

I think you could maybe do, say, a lavatory set and mirror in matte black but no to the third finish.

I went witg everything brushed nickel and my frames and a few other items are like a silver base with a gold wash on the edges.

You can mix metals in the bathroom but I would keep it down to two finishes, otherwise it will not look intentional. However, in my mind you should keep the same finish for bath, shower, faucet and have a different metal for hardware, mirror, lighting, door knobs.
