Comments (20)Arch of Constantine, dedicated AD 315 I missed this yesterday, but I wanted to add some information regarding columns and piers: <A column is a freestanding round shaft. A square column is called a pier. When a round column is attached to a wall, it is called an engaged column; and when a pier is attached to a wall, it is called a pilaster.> (Note: Pilaster is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable.) I've seen other definitions online, but this is what I was taught in architecture class at UT, and it is also the definition in my History of Architecture book. DH helping me with some of the dogs I walk. Happy Dog Day.
My two a little bit of a blurry picture. Both of my dogs are always so active and on the go I don't get great pictures of them.
DH and I being swept down the tunnels by the wind (not really) at the Coquihalla provincial park. Happy National park service founders day.
6 years agoHow about a National Seashore? I've been to many National Parks but all pre-digital. So these are from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in Rodanthe, Duck & Nags Head, North Carolina.
These next two are the house from the movie "Nights in Rodanthe". I really liked the movie. The house is so neat and the story is good. This first picture is from the movie. The house really was on the seashore.
This house was in the movie. It was battered by storms and in danger of falling into the sea. So some people got together and had the house moved in 2011 to the town of Rodanthe, where it stands today.
Well, I'm thrilled to see that all my pictures loaded right side up!!! I hope this glitch is now fixed for good.
