New greenhouse ideas
Comments (4)Actually, your question about type of flooring can be a significant factor these days. An insulated concrete solid slab will provide 'thermal mass' to moderate greenhouse temperature, as well as isolate your greenhouse plants from soil borne plant disease / pest problems, but it will be expensive. The solid concrete slab route also requires some advance thought regarding the burial of power and water lines, which is even more important if you're thinking of an all glass greenhouse where it isn't possible to simply 'drill a hole' and enter through a side wall. Personally, I have an 8 x 16 RION ( Plastic ) greenhouse. I opted for a pressure treated 4 x 4 subframe for the perimeter ( below grade ), with second 4 x 4 frame stacked on top ( with pressure treated cross members ), and with cedar porch deck boards on top of that to actually act as the 'floor'. This basically means that all of my greenhouse planting areas are above ground, and also able to drain through the gaps between the deck boards. However, I'm not sure that a wood construction base / floor would be compatible with the much heavier weight involved with a glass greenhouse....See MoreWhat type of paint should I use on exterior foam stucco
Comments (0)Hi I had my house done in a foam stucco about 10 years ago. It was done in a light beige color with the trim in a light cream. Well its time to freshen it up. Its very dirty and has some green algae stains on one side that doesn't get a lot of light. So my first question is does it need to be cleaned first? I'm scared to power wash it and damage it? Can I use a chemical and spary it on? Or should I use a good primer and then 1-2 coats of paint. Also what type of paint should be used? Is there a special type needed? I really want to use a good quality and not have to worry about painting it for another 7-10 years as it is a rental property. The first floor of the house is brick and the stucco portion is on second floor. Would it help to go darker so that it hides dirt better ? Thanks...See MoreI’m not sure what type or color floor I should put in the kitchen
Comments (3)how about you carry in the same type of wood from the other room into your kitchen? a flooring guy would have no problem matching it and staining it on site. or, do a nice porcelain tile this is bella moma from Tilebar.com. it's an 8x8 tile. would work well w/your countertop . also at tilebar. (you can get 5 samples for $5 over there) you could also do a solid piece of marmoleum. in the interim, you can actually paint that vinyl flooring, (just clean it really well, and prime first) prime it, paint it white, and then do this stencil in a nice blue that matches your countertop. or do a vinyl decal to cover the old flooring....See MoreWhat type of pavers should I use for front porch?
Comments (2)The installation of any mortared product in the horizontal plane will not withstand freeze/thaw climates. The pavers themselves, though, is a concrete product so I don't know what you are asking. Fully thick interlocking pavers are from 2 3/8"-4" thick, there is stone available up to 2" thick, and porcelain tiles at 3/4" thick. All of these products could be installed as a "paver" system. Your existing porch detailing and materials would also influence your decision....See MoreJanae Ballingham
