Priming Drywall before Mud and Tape
Comments (32)Again, let me remind vhehn that this was not my idea, it was my drywaller and painter who came to me for doing it. And when it comes to how to build a home, I don't rely on "that's how I've built them for 30 years" mentality, I go to the Building Science Corp that tests these new methods. I've read the manufacturer's instructions on every product we've used, including engineered I-Joist and the spray foam MSDS sheets. I know more about the products the "pros" use than they do. jmagill brought up my only concern, cost. This isn't costing me any more than not doing it. The painter believes it's worth his time and the extra money for primer to do this so his end product is better, and he proves it by not charging more for doing it. It took one of his crew one morning of time and a few buckets of primer. I don't know if the walls will be smoother or not, but I'll know if the final product is good or bad in a couple months. I never had a concern about the mud not sticking or bubbling or stuff like that. If this does result in a smoother finish, I wondered why I hadn't heard of it before, here or on another forum or TV show. That was my intent of the post....See MoreHow Big a Drywall Patch Before Taping is Needed?
Comments (26)McFixit- It wouldn't be a problem if people kept on target, but I've been on these forums over 10 years and these long threads almost inevitably start veering as people piggyback their slightly different questions on them, get into arguments and/or start sniping, or post redundant info prefaced by: "I didn't have time to read the other posts because this thread is so long, but here's what I think." Frankly, most questions can be answered with several responses, and it's more efficient for me to look through those than wade through the swamp. Each to his own.......See MoreNeed to hire drywall company before the painting company?
Comments (4)If it were smooth wall, a good painter could handle it. But when dealing with textures, you need someone who specializes in it. Even with smooth wall, if extensive taping is necessary, the drywall specialist is still a good idea. A good drywaller will make a lot less mess too, because they lay the mud out initially better and it needs less sanding....See MoreDrywall/texture Before Built In?
Comments (10)So clearly I don't understand how this works. They nailed up the boards and I thought they were going to cover it with the texture (or smooth) stuff to make it a solid wall. The built in will fill that entire area, but I feel like it should be a solid wall behind the built in...even if that wall won't show. Correct? They are not texturing anywhere else. The area will be completely filled in with a built in and crown moulding around it etc. I need to get better pics. You'll see what it looked like before they put the boards up. To the left is a proper wall and to the right is where a fireplace was. The entire area will be an entertainment built in. Should that be a solid wall before the built in is done?...See MoreVirgil Carter Fine Art
