Have you personally had success with chemical chimney cleaning?
Comments (14)I have found mixed reviews within the effectiveness of chemical logs . Personally I would go with Bays recommendations . Proper wood stove usage is the key . All flue pipe should be sized and run properly with the least restriction to flow as possible. Next only seasoned wood should be used and damper use to ensure at least 300 F Stack temps. Follow these and your creosote issue will be negligent and cleaning nominal . I use the old secret method of Potato Skins once a mth . Once your coals are red hot mix in some skins (two cups) and open the damper wide . Let the coals and skins burn down and out . This Seasonal Trade Secret has been tried and proven for decades here in the Great White North for Yrs. However the best policy is as Bay and I have stressed previously good wood and proper damper usage ....See MoreDo you let your cleaning person near your new kitchen appliances?
Comments (53)Agree with eleena. In my bathroom, I can't get the cleaner for the tile on the mirror, or the faucet cleaner on the floor, or the floor cleaner on the faucet. You can't clean the whole thing without a damn spreadsheet. Teasing aside, having a simple cleaning service is not an upper class thing, at least not for two-job households. However, the reality is, having an intelligent, reliable cleaning person is an upper-class luxury, unless you happen to be lucky. I would love to have a touchup every week or two. However, I remember what the cleaning people did at my mom's place when she got sick and couldn't do it all herself. Each week, something new was broken, scratched, stained or missing. She couldn't afford to supplement the housekeeper's income by running out and buying new carpets or collectibles or lamps on a weekly basis--which is precisely what you are doing if you allow someone to break something in your house without paying for it. She lucked out for a while with an old Italian lady who cleaned like she did, but for the most part they were more trouble and money than they were worth. Now, if you can afford real staff, then you can get into human resources techniques. But if you can't, then you're not the employer, just a customer, and you take what you get....See MoreGramercy Momeni Sage Area Rug - Have you seen in person?
Comments (12)All - I was a good little bat and did the right thing, and ordered the smallest size :) kswl - Loved your enthusiastic response, thanks!! Holly-kay - IâÂÂd love to order from RugStudio due to the excellent customer service youâÂÂve mentioned; I may give them a chance to match the lowest price I find. Karenseb - Thank you so much for the Overstock find, nice detective work! IâÂÂm guessing at the pattern size and just hoping the color will be right. Yes, IâÂÂve seen the same variance and am checking the pictures from every browser possible. The picture you posted I think is the same I photoshopped but something could have easily been lost during the copying and pasting and different programs; the âÂÂpictureâ of the rug in place does look lighter to me. I like the lighter green look. I originally fell for the rug in charcoal and am hoping any green in the sage version will be sufficiently lighter. Voila - Checking the reviews is a good idea and I do it religiously for appliances (but didnâÂÂt even think of it here). Thanks for the color feedback. Sueb20 - so glad you saw this! Great to hear the carpet has stood up well. Did I get the size of the circles right this time?! Peony4 - If this fails, I will definitely order multiple samples next time. As I checked out I was wondering whether I should have included a few others, just in caseâ¦. Glad you lucked out with your sample selection. Have we seen pictures of what you selected? Please post :)...See MoreDo you have a person like this in your life? A rant
Comments (58)Hi again aprile, I've been considering your situation some, since reading your original post. You need some emotional space between you. Don't let him pull this passive-aggressive business on you. Don't let him push your buttons. How would he react if you began to rather laugh at these sillinesses? In something of a light-hearted way, not coming across as mean-spirited and bitter. I hope that you can find some ways to resolve some of these issues between you. Do you have some person who cares about you, and is level-headed and sensible, whether professionally trained or not, who can listen and be helpful as you work your way through this troubling situation? Maybe a faith-related person, who'll listen, consider your situation and you and not just offer a bunch of pre-digested nostrums, that are given as the answer to every person's need, regardless of their individual circumstance. I wonder some about your dad inhabiting his own little emotional cubbyhole - is there some way to help him get a larger view of life, and feel more at home in it? Has he dealt with counselling, or would he be amenable to such? Is there someone whom he trusts, to whom he might pay attention, were they to suggest it and encourage him? ole joyful...See Moreeld6161
