One thought on the Victrola cabinet would be to paint the same color as the wall, in semi-gloss finish, and maybe pick out some detail in black. Or the reverse (black with detail picked out in wall color). To create a strong focal point for your room, I would love to see a large circular frame above your bed, with the frame curve nestling into the curve of the headboard. I have seen something like this done with religious art, but you could do something as simple as a circular support (think large-scale embroidery hoop) covered in a fabric that coordinates with your bedding. Or you could wallpaper a circular form (plywood, or other material). I think your bedding looks great, except perhaps you need a more substantial bedskirt - maybe a tailored, box pleat. Do you have room at foot of bed to add an upholstered bench? Lamp #2 is great, but I think lamp #1 would take less space on the bedside tables. If I remember correctly from another post, you are aiming for less contemporary for this room, so lamp #3 doesn't seem like a good fit. Actually, I like the wall sconce idea best, but I'm guessing they didn't shed light where you want?...See MoreWhat to do with this small alcove in our master bedroom??
Comments (16)We have an almost identical layout, and the PO's built a window seat with storage. I didn't like it at first, but it does hold a lot of pillows and blankets, which is nice. I struggled with what to do with the window, and ended up with inside mount blinds and an outside mount curved rod with floor-length drapes. I should probably make a nice cusion for the seat, though....See MoreYes, This Is Part Of The Bedroom
Comments (14)Here's a bit more of the picture, from Architectural Digest, with the following about the room; I believe that was Hamish Bowles writing for Vogue: Back in 2008, Vogue described the barrel-vaulted space, which was designed by architect Ernesto Buch, as “the world’s grandest bedsit.” That’s a Brit term (definition: half bedroom, half sitting room) for a one-room apartment where one lives, sleeps, cooks, and eats. Well, there are bedsits (think SROs), and there are bedsits. Occupying much of a pavilion-like extension to de la Renta’s house—which her late fashion-designer husband, Oscar, purchased in the 1970s and subsequently remodeled—the room could just as well be the repurposed library of an English Baroque country house executed by, say, William Kent. Here's more of the bed, from a blog post by designer Mark Simes with more details about the room, including the fact that the room itself is a 70-foot great room centered around a Palladian window with views of the garden. Aha, here's the original house as it looked in 1986, just a few years after de la Renta's first wife, House & Garden magazine editor Françoise de Langlade, died,...See MoreWeird bedroom alcove
Comments (11)Buy or have someone create a table or just install a couple of shelves, even 3 or 4 across the opening, that fits the area floor space, that you can place a lamp at the offset/center of the bed, some books, a flashlight, extra pillows or blankets/set of sheets, and a basket of assorted courtesy items...and decorative boxes on top and bottom could store seasonal items for your home... The shelves could be painted the color of your walls or wood trim.....It's nice to put something like this digital item, in a guest room, too...You might not need 2 lamps and you might be able to place a chair to the left of the bed, in the place where a nightstand might be?This is the neatest item I have seen yet for any bedroom! ..<https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07193RGD6/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07193RGD6&pd_rd_wg=gMt0e&pd_rd_r=0JRNBZBFHJPWB45VBBB8&pd_rd_w=uxbNy> Nice for a shelf behind a bed too......See Moreturnby
