Jute rug and cats - trouble or not?
Comments (7)I put down a sisal (similar to jute) rug in the dining room a few months ago. We have 2 cats and 2 teenagers and use the dining room *constantly* so I was worried about cleanliness and cat abuse too. But I'm happy to report that so far so good. The cats do use the rug to scratch but for some reason there isn't nearly as much visual evidence of damage as I saw on the wool rug I previously had down which they also scratched. As for food droppage and stains, nothing so far although I guess that could happen. My daughter vacuums it during her weekly cleaning chores and it seems to clean up fine. Also, not sure about what size you need but natural fiber rugs are relatively inexpensive compared to other types of area rugs. I bought mine from Ikea and they are also widely available online and in stores for not a lot. I paid $150 for mine and it is ~8x10. Here's a picture of the one I have in the DR: Good luck with your decision-and don't get scared away from natural fiber too quickly! Ann...See MoreWould this rug work?
Comments (1)I have a hard time with pulling together a totally new color in a room. If there were some green somewhere else I could see it, but as is, it doesn't tie in well. But I'm far from a color expert ;)...See MoreFinding a matching rug
Comments (19)Our carpet definitely needs replaced after several years of walking. No stains really or destroyed just aged. We would love to get new couches, but not a priority right now. So updating the colors and decor was what we're trying to do for now. Getting little things at a time, far from finished. I like the navy, gray, off-white look. We have espresso furniture pieces and distressed white 2 tone pieces. BUT I feel like a 5x7 rug under coffee table would tie it all together. I understand that's not everyone's cup of tea, but without the extra color I think it looks boring and blah. We actually had a rug there before this update and initially I didn't like the idea, but after rolling it up it looks bare and my table doesn't pop - it blends......See MoreHelp! Comments (3)It doesn’t look like you need a rug there, but if you are just looking to add some color, an oriental style area rug would look nice, IMO. Sheepskin I think would be too small and not really relate to anything else in the room....See MoreYayagal
