Soffit repair/replacement

I’m hiring a contractor to repair/replace my soffit and gutters. I have original wooden soffit built in 1983. House is 1050 sqft. It has some wood rot on the soffit at the corners, as I can push my Hand through easily if attempted. Some paint is coming off the side wood trim, and soffit does not vent good. They quoted me around $3,200 to come out and put aluminum soffit coverings over the wood already in place, and drill new vent holes. My question is, is this standard practice? I thought they would replace all the old wood etc. They stated no need, and just want to cover all trim fascia board and soffit with vinyl aluminum and call it a day. Or course new gutters and downspouts as well.
