If there is a moisture issue and lack of ventilation, covering existing soffit with aluminum will only make it worst. It will continue to deteriorate behind and you will have greater damage down the road.

Remove all of the wood soffit (most cases it's a 3/8" plywood) and fix rotted fascia if any and wrap the fascia with aluminum. and install vinyl ventilated soffit instead.

Make sure they push back the insulation and you can add a few roof vents near the ridge.

Thanks for the response. I will check for moisture issue. So far it’s only one two corners of the soffit that are weak. I suspect maybe gutters were bad. The soffit is not venting good because it’s got old vents and paint on them. So I would rather have wood replaced. However, it is still safe and good price range to do what there wanting to do?

Yes, with the house being 1,000 SF you should be OK in that price range and even better.

Yes, in the first picture I provided as an example, the wood to which gutters attached, usually wrapped in aluminum and the soffit bellow where you have the plywood, there is vented vinyl soffit instead.

So if I understand you correctly. You are saying it’s acceptable to wrap fascia board and soffit plywood in aluminum, given there’s no moisture problem? They are not trying to rip old wood out, but merely wrap and weather protect current wood in place. Of Course drill more vent holes and new gutters etc.

That’s what I was worried about. He said they would just cover all wood, and there was no reason to pull soffit plywood unless it had something major wrong. I just want the job done right, as I am on budget.

So should I let them continue? Or should I seek other company. They also want to replace my windows by cutting the very edge of the window frame and just lay in the new window instead of busting out the old metal/ aluminum frame. They been in business awhile, I’m just confused.

You can also replace the vent covers. Should be metal. They sell them, lowes, home depot and other places, and its a very simple thing to do for not much money.

I understand, I just have a few spots on the corners of the plywood soffit that are rotting/weak. So I was just looking to get it replaced.
