Advice on honed marble counter tops
Comments (3)I've had my honed statuary marble for 2 years. I have etching and "worn" spots where I cook and mix (and thus turn bowls) all the time. Even scratches where I slide a bowl (or laptop or something else) across the counter top. But I have no stains. As another poster said, you only see the etches (and worn parts) when the light catches it right and you are looking. The marble is still my favorite thing in my entire house. I seal with the 511 (fabricator sealed and gave me a new bottle). I've done it twice since it was new, so I guess about once a year. When water doesn't bead anymore, it's time to seal....See MoreCounter top layout advice needed please!
Comments (1)I always go with the standard Eased edge for countertops. I think if you had that you'd be fine but if you counter edges have a crisp/sharp 90 degree square edge, then you might want it rounded off a bit....See Morecounter top height advice
Comments (14)I think you could but then I'm notoriously unhandy and have been set straight a number of times by DH or contractors on the exact was to accomplish something. In my old kitchen with an L-shaped arrangement the range sat a one end of the short leg on a raised platform. The sink was in the middle of the long leg and the dishwasher sat next to it on a raised platform. All of the base cabinets were built with a standard toekick and an extra 2 inches in the useful space so that the countertop sat at 38" high. I don't see why the cabinets couldn't also sit on a raised plywood base along with the appliances but you're probably better off asking the cabinet maker as they would have the practical knowledge of how to do this....See MoreLaminate counter tops in otherwise luxurious kitchen? Any advice?
Comments (97)I just had to post here...OMG...the lady that wrote Laminate and luxurious in the same sentence.."NO". I hope I never have to meet someone like you in my lifetime. What a bunch of snobby, snarky..people! I am sorry..I think you can have a beautiful, luxurious kitchen without paying for granite, quartz, soapstone...etc. My goodness. I am building a house now and get to hear from our subs about all of the snooty women that they have to deal with...literally walking out of a house because the closets aren't big enough... What kind of country have we become? I say..if you want to buy high end appliances...beautiful cabinets..and put it all in a laminate kitchen. I think it can be stunning! Don't listen to all of these snooty fruities.....do what YOU want..and the people that matter...won't walk into your kitchen and take a mental note of your laminate..I would think it was beautiful! And for those of you who think that I must be some low life...my husband is a doctor! There....rant over! :-)...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
