Oxankle: Austin is a great place to live. Leander is quite different now than it was in the early '90's and radically different than it was in the 1950's, as is Austin. Ceresella: If you want to go the cheapest route, and want a Celeste, Brown Turkey or Kadota, you can probably find them at one of the local nurseries or large chain stores like Home Depot or Lowe's in Austin. Of course, there is a considerable possibility that the cultivar will be mislabeled. If you want a more uncommon variety, are willing to pay more for a smaller tree, and are willing to wait a year or two longer for fruit, then order on line from one of the reputable fig suppliers. Search the threads on this forum in order to find a good on-line vendor.

So this is interesting. I checked on the burrow later and it was completely covered over. Even the soil that was kicked onto the pavers was moved back, and the area scrubbed clean like nothing ever happened. I asked my wife why she covered it up and she had no idea what I was talking about. I did a little research and it turns out the female does just that. Digs a burrow in a sunny location, lays 8-30ish eggs, covers the burrow and never returns. The eggs hatch in 40-80ish days. I would have guessed they were ovoviviparous so it's pretty cool I think. Hopefully there are eggs since it was covered back up. Typical male, gotta touch stuff we shouldn't. It chose a spot that's smack dab in the middle of a feral cat highway so I'm glad to see it made it that far.

If you can toss meal worms within sight of the lizard, and continue to do so on a regular daily basis, before long it could be taking worms directly from your hand. Don't try to make a pet of it, but you can enjoy a simbiotic relationship. You have a pretty big fellow (or gal) there. I have one in my yard that is about 11 inches long.
