Setting up orchid aquarium, need small fan
Comments (17)Woo hoo! I can now report that the aquarium may be able to do its job- it's been running at 60-65% humidity, which is 20% higher than the room it's in :) C'mon now, bring on those buds! Oh, BTW, You can see the C. lunifera spike and a few flowers in the above photo. I need to post real pictures of the flowers, but I wanted to point this out :) Kevin - I couldn't find any waffle grating at HD - where did you get yours? I did make this raised grating-like thing (very cool actually), but it ended being too tall- the leaves of the taller plants were brushing the top of the aquarium. It was about 2 in tall I think. It's OK the way it is, and I could always add a fan or lower the current one, to blow directly on the resevoir, hopefully adding even more humidity. Oh yea, I don't *want* any more of these difficult plants - I'm in too deep with this bunch as it is. Give me a stan or a ctsm any day! Stay tuned for the flowers, folks ;) Carolyn...See MoreInexpensive Seed Starting System
Comments (54)As far as shop lights go, do you prefer the ones with reflectors or not? Because the ones with reflectors/chains with which to hang them are NOT $8 and I've been all over my area going to every sort of hardware store I can think of to compare prices. It is either inflation at work or stores no longer carry whatever shop lights everyone has talked about in the past lol The only "shop lights" for uber-cheap that I've seen are the ones that need to be drilled into the wall, i.e. "under cabinet" lighting. But, since I shall have nothing to do today I'm going to try to purchase a cheap set of wire shelving and one shop light and bulbs. I was thinking of waiting two weeks (basically, until my next check) but some of my plants are growing very well and will need to be transplanted and have more space than what I currently have set up....See MoreSteel For Show, Steel For Go
Comments (62)My favorite line - "snowed in and out of booze". Anyway, I remember reading your intro post and the "face" I put on your kitchen was sort of take on plllog's second kitchen only with red cabinets and no round prep space or modern backsplash. If you go with metal counters, my vote is to let the surface develop it's own patina ala circuspeanut instead of forcing it. As for reconciling your differences with SWMBO - DH picked out most of our aesthetic details (with only slight nudging from myself) and I held firm on the layout issues....See MoreDo it yourself dog baths in Illinois
Comments (7)Good question! The one here in SE Michigan where I used to go closed down. I have kept my eyes open looking for another one, with no luck. I can't figure out how to search for them in the yellow pages or on the web. Any ideas? In cold weather, I tend not to bathe my dogs. Partially, I just don't bathe them more than a couple times a year (toweling them off after a rain does a lot toward keeping them clean), and partially because they get at least two baths a year at the kennel where they stay while we are away on vacation. My smaller dog (40 lbs) is small enough to bathe in the laundry tub. I have a friend who would put a plastic lawn chair in her walk-in shower stall and set the dog in the chair to bathe it, so she didn't have to bend so much. There are a number of different types of drain traps, I have always found one that works. Now I am using the flat metal kind with holes in it, but I have the plastic mesh dome kind and the metal mesh dome kind and the metal mesh cup kind, too. You might keep looking. My best solution was to build the paw-washing station next to the back door. Too bad we ended up moving :-( Here is a link that might be useful: my invention...See MoreVirgil Carter Fine Art
