UN-stained wood?
Comments (4)I can't answer your question regarding type of finish, but I can tell you my experience with dark floors. I have lived in 2 houses with light wood floors & 1 with very dark wood. The dark showed every crumb, every speck of dust & lint. It didn't matter how often I vacuumed & damp mopped, it looked dirty again as soon as I was done. I am not a perfectionist about cleaning but that floor drove me crazy. We have 2 adults & 1 cat, no kids. Our current house has light maple floors with good amount of color variation & that seems to hide most everything. I'm so much happier living with this floor....See MorePlease post pics of natural unstained walnut floors :)
Comments (7)ok just a few things. I love walnut. even though its soft compared to other woods, I just love it. What ever size widths you go with is up to you. if youre trying to maximize the amount of wood you get, do whatever the guy milling tell you. Other thing is with whole logs, youre gonna get a lot of color variation, so doing random width might give you more options come install time to pick and choose which boards you want. the other thing is You can stain walnut. you are limited to what you can stain it (colorwise) but it can take stain. lastly, natural finish walnut gets lighter as it ages. especially in sunlight. its weird, and doesn't sound right, but as the finish ages (even with water bourne finishes) it makes the wood appear lighter...once you sand the old finish off it goes back to its original color, just something to keep in mind....See MoreWhat do your stained or natural wood cabinets look like?
Comments (38)I just saw this. I have to tell you, stained cabinets never spoke to me. I'd come across a painted kitchen and "ooOOOoooooo," I'd softly quiver. ("quiver?" OMG. I said "quiver.") Anyway, that was until the day I stripped some vintage, beaded inset cabinets down to bare oak. Holy moly were they pretty. I antiqued them with a gray stain, then 2 different tones of brown to reach an incredible finish. Then, I stripped some of those horrible dark red/black cherry cabinets, again, down to bare wood. So absolutely beautiful. I've actually done the same finish now on 4 antique doors, too. LOVE IT. Now I have such a mix of wood in my kitchen it probably looks stupid, but I call it "eclectic." (No, it's not nice just because I did it. It's just that I can't decide now what to do!) But I don't want to repaint them. My point in all this? I love the pictures this question is provided. Thanks for asking. Also, don't be shy about Citristripping the finish off your cabs and restaining. It's a PIA, but incredibly do-able in place with Citristrip. Messy, but no longer flesh-eating. Just a thought....See MoreLp siding wanting to stain to look like natural wood
Comments (2)If it is painted already you are not going to effectively strip the paint and stain the siding. That being said from what I know you will not get a pressed wood fiber siding to stain and look like a real wood siding. The face surface is not designed that way....See MoreErin Roe
