wrong trees planted....should I keep them?
Comments (2)FWIW, IF the Chinese Pistache are the "Keith Davey" selection, I would probable keep them in your local. Otherwise get what you paid for. Was this a "landscaper"? Allot of people come here with problems due to improper planting, and/or rootbound container trees. Were your trees planted from containers (probable so considering it mid-summer in Texas. If so there is almost certainly root problems that need to be addressed for longer term survival. Arktrees...See MoreShould I keep the scallops or cut them?

Comments (34)I just realized I did not come back and update what I decided to do. I so appreciate everyone's commnets and suggestions. I did have them painted white and love the result! it feels like such a tranquil room now. I don't know if it is just an itch to have something different, but now I am trying to decide if I want to have the kitchen cabinets painted white since to rooms are open to each other. I am not concerned about following trends. The cabinets are either maple or birch. As I have polled my friends and family I get differing answers. I am not good at visualizing and have tried the paint visualizers from SW and BJ but it looked like a kindergartener scribbled on the picture with a crayon! I did try homedesign.ai and no matter how many times I ask for white cabinets, it always produced this picture: I actually really like this look, but it also has new countertops and backsplash. I just wasn't ready to do a whole kitchen remodel....See MoreBulbs: should I remove or leave them?
Comments (20)My most vigorous returning tulips are Ivory Floradale. Originally planted in the fall of 2001 they have returned every year since and are as large as ever and the clumps keep expanding. The soil here is heavy clay. They were planted at least 6" deep. The Dasystemon Tarda tulips and turkestanica tulips were planted the year before and also come back every year. They are small 'botanical tulips' and I let them set seed and spread that way if they wish. The Ivory Floradale get their flower stalks cut down to the base as soon as the petals start dropping, so they never set seed. The three of them make good companions - The Ivory Floradale start out yellow and fade to creamy white. The Dasystemon Tarda are vibrant yellow with white and bloom when the Ivory Floradale is in its yellow phase. The turkestanica does not look particularly tulip-like, blooms a bit late and its creamy white flowers go well with almost anything, including the white phase of Ivory Floradale. We have other tulips that come back each year, including Queen of the Night and Angelique, which are not as vigorous but still pop up regularly in places. Orange Emperor has been a reliable returner but not very vigorous. And then there are other unknown ones - the squirrel-planted ones! - that are vigorous returners but I don't know their names. In my densely planted gardens where tulips are mixed in with other plants (rather than being in a dedicated space of their own) the dying foliage doesn't bother me too much. Cutting down the flower stalk really helps minimize the visibility of the mess I think....See MoreRelated Professionals
