All the trim and all the ceilings in our house are natural cypress. Our floors are wide t&g pine with a bit of stain to mimic older wood. There are no white walls here. Personally, I always feel like white walls with wood trim looks a little cold. I see it all the time, so it must appeal to others more than it does to me. YMMV. In our house, we have the following wall colors paired with the wood: foyer, hallways, study: Moonshine (Eddie Bauer color from Olympic) living room: Billiard Green (Olympic) kitchen & dining room: Blue (Ben Moore) master bedroom: Barn Red (SW) guest bedroom: La Fonda Antique Red (Olympic Historic series) son's bedroom: La Fonda Deep Blue (Olympic Historic series) IME, greens, reds and blues work very well with pine/cypress. Beige, cream, yellow and taupe are all rather tricky but not impossible. The Moonshine we have in the foyer is a very pale creamy yellow that just glows. It does very well with the woodwork, as well as serving as a buffer color between some of the other more dramatic hues.

I prefer the garage door trim in the house trim color. Looking at the result, I would, however, paint the whole opening and not just the outer rim. It will lighten the side trim shadow, reducing the contrast between the two so it doesn't have an outlined eyeliner look but will be more blended overall. Try the one door first to see what you think. I'm kind of undecided on the door. It's such a beautiful red that looks like a deep rich brown-red that goes well with the colors of your house. But I'm not sure the door is the right place for it. (I mentioned on another thread that a wreath or planter, for example, could pick up some of the red in a smaller dose.) Hard to tell how bright the red gets from the photo. It doesn't look bright here, just a bit off overall, imo. And too dark, I agree. Of course, it doesn't appear to be wearing any hardware either! Kind of giving us a blank look ; ) I believe you said you were going with a dark orb? What type of hardware are you using? Knob or long handle, kick plate, knocker? I'm wondering how much, if any, impact it will have in dressing it (from a distance in all the shadows). You're doing a great job!

The top of the base pictured by the OP is beveled, making it impossible to use door trim with a 90-degree end cut. Changing the base to one with a square cut top makes door trim simple.
