I now have a good list to bring with me to the hardware store today. :-) We won't be able to go with wallpaper at this stage in the game, but we can pick any paint color at this point. To answer a question, our floors will be white oak with a pale, water-based finish by Vermont Naturals. One of the room colors (already picked) adjacent to the hallway is Ben Moore's Heavenly Blue in the dining room. We also might use Beacon Gray in the first floor bath...still deciding on so many colors! :-) Many thanks again, and I am open to additional ideas too! Sara

Yes, absolutely. Ceiling does look higher. The whole space feels more open, cleaner, and airy. It's a pleasure to be there, after 25+ years of being kind of a utilitarian space. So there's hope for all of those boring spaces in our homes, y'all!

You have a low light situation here that is not going to work well if you paint it white. White needs light to be white, otherwise it is gray, just like it is now. Making it a lighter white isn't going to make it better. I love the idea of a soft green for this hallway. It is not the white on white trend, but it is a unique and beautiful homes are often not created by following the current trend. The green around the door in the last picture is a much grayer, softer more neutral green than the other two that you selected. I would attempt to get that color and paint the entire hallway with that color, keeping the ceilings and crown white or selecting another complementary neutral for the adjacent rooms and painting all the ceilings with the complementary neutral and painting the crown with a satin version of the same color as the ceilings. I like the colors that you picked, but not for your entrance hall. They are too brilliant for your entrance. You want to subdue the colors down a bit. If you notice, the door color on your third picture is much more grayed out than the other colors you are picking. When you paint a few hundred square feet of wall space the color becomes so much more obvious than you thought it would
