Comments (16)Linda, that's a good idea, but they'd get dirty in my shed!!! LOL It'd be easy to get a three-ring binder and slide the papers for each item into a page protector sleeve. I think I'll do that! My suggestion sorta goes along with Linda's. For anything you buy that might require you to produce the receipt in a few years to prove the warranty, such as a fridge, stereo equipment, stove, what have you, make a photocopy of the receipt to keep with the receipt and all your other paperwork. I don't know how many times I've gone back to reference that receipt and found that the ink is just gone. They're not printed to be archival quality even though you need them to be!...See MoreAnyone have Fiestaware?
Comments (16)Ah, Fiesta. The first thing that you've gotta be aware of is that the dishes are addicting. I started with chartreuse because I needed to replace my chipped dishes & that color was on sale...I now have something in just about every color. The original (pre 80's) Fiesta has lead in the glaze. The original red (more of an orangey red) does in fact contain uranium & is known as radioactive red. The Ivory does as well, but not as much. A lifetime among the original red will expose you to about a single X-ray's worth of radiation. I wouldn't use the stuff in the microwave. But I do use the vintage stuff as well as the new. Just like leel, I have a big Ivory mixing bowl that I use for proofing bread. The new, vitrified, Fiesta is pretty much bullet proof. I'm a klutz & haven't managed to chip a single piece in nearly 10 years of slipping & dropping my way around the kitchen. It's oven/micro/dishwasher safe & lead free. I've cooked in it & it cleans up easily. Handily enough the new color, Ivory, is coming out this month. It looks like a shinier version of the original Ivory and should be easy to dress up or down at the table. Be warned that any light color of Fiesta is prone to silverware marks- they look like grey pencil lines on the dishes. These can easily be removed with Comet or Pfaltzgraff cleaner. But Ivory sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for. Lars- if you're really curious about your blue dishes send me a picture & I can tell you if they're Fiesta. But most of the "new" fiesta is marked. Sometimes if the glaze is really dark you can't see the stamp. But the shapes are usually unmistakable (at least to the Fiesta obsessed). Any Fiesta questions, just ask. I love the stuff & they just came out with a set of true nesting mixing bowls! heaven. Comments (31)There are too many choices out there! I stopped at Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target which were in the same shopping center. Then I hit the Mall and looked in Macy's, JC Penney and Sears. Honestly I could pick a new car quicker. Then I looked at the Corell, Onieda and Fiesta web site. I think I've ruled out the heavier stoneware like Fiesta and Pfaltsgraff because I think my husband might chip them since he's used to my indestructible Corning ware. My problem is that since I've had the same set for over 30 years I keep thinking that I'll use my next set for another 30 years so I'm being too careful. The dishes just aren't that expensive to spend so much time contemplating. I enjoyed the tablescapes on the Holiday Forum site. I do like to change the look on my table with different accessories but I'm amazed at how inventive those themes were. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Now all I have to do is make a decision....See MoreSquare Plates And Bowls?
Comments (16)I don't think you can get the square plates my oldest son has -- Gorham Boulder Creek. But if you can, it's been good stuff. It was sold as a set that came with square plates but round bowls. They are bone china -- no chips. They'd have killed pottery or stoneware by now. LOL ETA: I couldn't get more of the Gorham, but I bought my oldest some fruit bowls in the Denmark vitrified porcelian, They are heavier than the bone china, but have held up well also. Found those at Home Goods....See MoreRelated Professionals
