Mixing stained wood kitchen cabinetry with painted cabinets?
Comments (15)We recently redid our kitchen and did the upper cabinets in a medium-dark stain and the lower cabinets in a cream/white milk paint. We also converted seven of the upper cabinets to window cabinets, which helps blend the two since some of the dishes showing through are also a creamy white; and we used the same new stainless steel cabinet pulls across all the cabinets, which helps pull things together too. We ended up liking the result even more than we thought we would! The upper cabinets have a nice patina/character to them, and the lower cabinets seem modern and clean. Both pair well with the quartz countertops, which look like white marble. Even with the darker upper cabinets, the kitchen looks SO much lighter and brighter than it was before, when the countertops were black and all the cabinets were an oak-y orange stain over maple wood. (Going two-tone this way - in reverse - is less typical, but I did find plenty of photos where this approach was taken in other kitchen remodels.)...See MorePaint cabinets or order new cabinet fronts?
Comments (3)I can tell you my experience. Painter did all boxes by hand, after sanding and priming. He took the doors to his buddy who owns a car restoration business and he sprayed the doors. Fantastic job. Not cheap. Next year my husband had to take his truck in for a minor accident repair. He asked the fellow if he would spray kitchen cabinet doors. Absolutly! For a fraction of the original price. Not only would he spray cabinet doors, he would spray dining room sets, etc....See MoreTo paint the cabinets or NOT to paint the cabinets?THAT’s the question
Comments (18)Thanks for the feedback everyone. Melissa R, that photo is so helpful! Funny too because we painted our walls SW Alabaster. I’ve still got more plans for the space (backsplash, range hood, removing the weird shelf to the right, new stools, etc) but felt like I needed direction for the cabinets. The problem with painting the wall is that our kitchen/dining/living area is open concept, so I thought I’d make the “pop” by painting all cabinets an off white, a darker charcoal for the island and matching hood. The cabinets do have a pinkish hue, and I had even thought of maybe white washing them. So many possibilities! Thanks again everyone and wish me luck! 🙏🏻🥰 PS-my German Shepherd thinks the cabinets should stay, as he is camouflaged when sneaking a snack that may or may not have fallen onto the ceramic tile, upon which he loves to cool off since we live in the heat of the high desert. ☀️ 🐕 😉...See MorePaint cabinets first or install countertop, then paint?
Comments (2)I'd paint first -- then you don't have to fuss with masking off countertop area or worry about splatter onto the counter. Use a piece of plywood on the cabs as your working table, who cares if that gets paint on it....See MoreCarson Rose
