Flooring dilemma for a converted garage (now a kids playroom)

I need help deciding what kind of flooring to use in our playroom. This space was once a garage, and the previous owner converted it to living space. The seagrass carpet in the photo has been pulled up, and concrete is below. The walls have been repainted to BM Manchester Tan. We will be using this space as a kid's playroom for crafts, etc. so I would like to avoid carpet (or at least avoid it in part of the room). What can be done to the concrete? Or, what can be put on top of it? Can hardwoods go on top of concrete? Since it used to be a garage, I'm concerned about oil spots if we were to polish the concrete. All advice welcome!
