Help ID this Critter on our Citrus & Succulents
Comments (5)Try something mild for now...if there are NO blooms a mixture of Murphy's oil soap (or dish washing liquid) and water should do the trick...a few drops to a sprayer should do it...don't add too much soap just enough so it will stick and suffocate the bugs (looks like Mealies? to me also)...don't spray in full sun...early morning or very early evening, unless temps are going to be cool and cloudy...below 75 degrees would be best...you can always rinse the soap off after a few minutes to keep the leaves from burning...then spray again in a few days to get rid of the eggs and whatever you might have missed....See MorePlease Help I.D. Comments (3)They are a hatch of midges.....males have fuzzy antenna, females do not.....they are not harmful and relatively short lived....so they will be gone soon.....no need to spray them.... Comments (4)Hi Anita... :-) Thanks, it's good to have a name for it so I can look it up and find out a little more about them. I wonder what the predator would be for that? Thanks Jean... So I'll try handpicking some more and if that doesn't work, insecticidal soap. There seems to be a bug for just about every plant!...See MoreID this critter in our squirrel den?
Comments (4)Thanks to you both. My initial reaction was an owl but when I saw the picture on the camera I thought the eyes looked smallish for an owl, besides its head seeming so small relative to the hole. I didn't factor in the different types of owls. I've lived here ten years and it's the first owl I've seen in that time. It's not at all uncommon to hear them but you never see one. I think it's neat and it's got me looking up there each afternoon hoping for another peek so I could maybe take another picture. It was snowing pretty decent that day and between that and the distance it threw the focus off. I even have the camera sitting near the back door.:-)...See MoreUser
