Would window boxes add curb appeal?
Comments (14)Those are so lovely, Susan! Love them. :) I like the idea for your house, Claudianne. I have had them at every house I’ve lived in, always the hay trough style. I found extra deep ones for my last house, and loved them, but couldn’t find that size for my current house. This is just the standard kind (and the window is set higher than our others) ... I think we got it at Home Depot. It came with the coconut fiber liner, too, which is nice — when I had the extra deep trough, I had to cut cf liner to fit. I do plant in mine, so have to change the liner yearly. (I recycle the old liner for other things.) You said you’re not planting yet, so I’ll show some holiday pics of mine, as well as planted ones. Sweet potato vines are common, but they do well in shallow souls. I currently have rosemary in there, too, but will be taking them out to plant in bigger pots next spring. I wish I could show it in context of the entire front of the house, but prefer not to for privacy reasons. I promise it looks good! And I love doing seasonal designs. :)...See MoreHow would you improve the curb appeal of this house?
Comments (14)A deep crawl space? The crawl space looks deep enough for a finished walkout basement or a two car garage. The crawl space looks like the front door should be down stairs. The crawl space looks taller than the main house above. Seriously, that is a dirt floored crawl space under there? The side view with the siding being lower than the floor level of the front porch only adds to the wacky. So here is a wacky solution: lower the whole front porch deck 3 or 4 feet. Put steps up to the front door from the deck as needed. That will help balance the tiny house above with the giant crawl space below, reduce the amount lattice needed and the number of steps to get there. I'd also consider moving the stairs to the left side of the house as a switchback staircase instead of a single long run across the front and swapping out the lattice for horizontal boards between the deck posts....See MoreHow would you update the curb appeal of this weird 60s home?
Comments (17)Like the house. Someone may have been trying for MCM? If the absence of symmetry bothers you, removing the ?porch? roof right of the garage and then recreating the forward facing gable so the right side of it matches the left side of the roof that is over the garage. Then consider adding a real or faux roofing vent or faux window centered in your new forward facing gable. Budget permitting, consider a new garage door, preferably with a natural wood finish and a row of windows across the top. When you work on the landscaping, be sure you do not put dirt against the trunk of the tree but you could certainly level the area around the tree from tree trunk out creating a planting area around the tree....See MoreHow to add more curb appeal to our new construction?
Comments (21)The majority here frown upon a garage in front of a home. I really hate it when the snark comes out with the old ”house attached to the garage” line is thrown out there, Its not low key passive agressive, we all get it. Im not sure anybody would choose to have their garage as the prime feature of their home. There are many reasons why people have this style home, first is $$ and second is lot size. Having said that, like mark said, buy the nicest garage door you can find. I think you need to wait until your home is finished for real useful advice. Congrats on your new home, may the build be uneventful....See MoreSarah C
